As a co-educational Catholic College, St Leo’s provides an invaluable opportunity for students to appreciate the perspectives boys and girls bring to the community and successfully experience the sheer complexity of gender.

The College has developed a culture where diversity, equality and inclusion is encouraged and the staff and students work collaboratively to maintain this philosophy.

Academic Results

A non-selective College, St Leo’s delivers strong academic results across the curriculum in a broad range of subjects, and consistently has its HSCSC student names appearing in the Premiers “All Rounders Achievers List”. Consistently, more than 75% of students are offered a place each year at University (State average 30%)

Curriculum

In years 7 – 10 there is a Targeted Class designed specifically to extend and enrich the most capable students. Students are selected for this class based on their demonstrated performance from external examinations, classwork, school testing and social factors.

The College submits strong teams across the year groups in competitions such as the da Vinci Decathlon (math), Dorothy Mackellar Poetry Prize; Shakespeare Interactive; debating and public speaking competitions. There is a strong emphasis on academic achievement with continued improvement in the College’s NAPLAN results.

In 2007, the College introduced a range of integrated technology systems - every student has an ipad; they have access to the campus WIFI; Mac laptops and Apple TV’s. The love of reading is fostered within the College, and despite the advances in technology, students have quiet reading time in class from ‘real’ books.

Co-curricular Activities

The Creative Arts students excel with regular nominations and selections into Art Express. The continuing development of the music program is exceptional. In Term 2, 2015 the College’s Stage Band took first place and the mixed vocal choir, 3rd place at the Sydney Eisteddfod. These excellent results reflect the depth of the music program where students can participate in seven performing ensembles including Concert, Stage, Jazz and Symphonic Bands and Choirs as well as String and Woodwind ensembles.

Hospitality plays a strong part in the teaching and community life at the College, and every student has the opportunity to participate and enjoy the rewards from this program with regular hospitality provided by the students at College events.

Sporting Program

The tiered sporting program, devised and run by specifically trained and dedicated PE teachers has improved the quality of the internal sporting program, and includes equality sport such as Touch; Netball; Rugby (union & league) Basketball; Aerobics; Cricket, Soccer; AFL; Netball; Volleyball and Athletics.

A wide range of representative sporting opportunities exist for students to compete in. As a member of the Broken Bay Secondary Schools Sports Association (BBSSSA) students have a pathway to represent at Combined Catholic Colleges, NSW All Schools and at Australian Schools’ level.

Pastoral Care

There is a significant focus at the College on living out the joy of the gospel by putting faith into action. The Outreach Program, involving local, national and international immersion experiences is integral to the College’s Social Justice Program. The College has a dedicated Youth Ministry program that invites students to become involved in a variety of activities that allow them to grow in faith and exercise Christian leadership. Students are encouraged to participate in many other social justice activities including St Vincent de Paul Night Patrol, visiting local nursing homes and fundraisers for a variety of charitable organisations.

Overview

The College aims to provide an excellent academic education in the Catholic tradition. An education at St Leo’s will inform, challenge, encourage and engage each student and promote the College’s core values of Integrity; Hope; Dignity; Respect and Justice in every aspect of school life.

Come and experience everything St Leo’s has to offer on a private tour of the College.

Principal's Message

As St Leo's Catholic College Wahroonga prepares to celebrate its' 60th Anniversary in 2016, it is a privilege to be Principal of this secondary school. As a co-educational high school St Leo's provides an invaluable opportunity for students to appreciate the perspectives boys and girls bring to the community and successfully experience the sheer complexity of gender. We are the only Catholic co-educational high school on Sydney's middle to upper north shore.

The College has developed a culture where diversity, equality and inclusion is encouraged and the staff and students work collaboratively to maintain this philosophy. There is significant focus at St Leo's on living out the joy of the gospel by putting faith into action, which is supported by an extensive Social Justice Program where the students can be fully involved in a variety of activities that allow them to grow in faith and exercise Christian leadership.

A non-selective high school, St Leo's College delivers strong academic results across the curriculum in a broad range of subjects and consistently has its HSC student names appearing in the Premiers "All Rounders Achievers List".

Consistently, more than 75% of students are offered a place each year at University (State average 30%). The Creative Arts students excel with regular nominations and selections into Art Express, and one of our current 2015 HSC Drama students has just received a nomination into the prestigeous 'Encorse', a program of outstanding HSC performances and compositions, held annually at the Sydney Opera House.

Come and experience everything St Leo's co-educational high school has to offer at a private tour of the College or at our Open Day, held in March each year.
