WELCOME TO The Peninsula School

The Peninsula School is a day and boarding school for approximately 1440 students from three-year-old Kindergarten to Year 12. Our aim is to help each child in our school community reach their potential.

We aPeninsulastudentsandPrincipalchieve this by rigorous attention to academic outcomes combined with an extensive co-curricular program. Our Year 12 students consistently achieve above state averages at VCE.

Our Dux for 2015 recorded a perfect ATAR score of 99.95 and was therefore equal top VCE student in the State. Collectively, the Class of 2015 enjoyed one of the finest set of results ever realised at The Peninsula School with almost 50% of our students finishing in the top 20% of the State.

Students achieved Study Scores of 46+ in the following subjects (Top 2% of the State): Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Specialist Maths, English, English Literature, Legal Studies, Business Management, Geography, Further Maths, Product Design & Technology.

Our international students benefit from the specialised facility of our English Language Centre, where they can hone their English skills before entering the mainstream classrooms.

Our co-curricular activities include an extensive Music and Drama program, sporting opportunities, a House program, unsurpassed pastoral care, a well-defined code of behaviour and a well-developed sense of community. Peninsula is a worldwide leader in the field of Positive Education.

Our students' achievements are testament to the dedication and expertise of our teachers, who enjoy a close relationship with their students at all year levels.

Every school wants to believe that it offers something special, something just a little bit different from other schools. At Peninsula, we too believe that we have a certain spirit, more than just camaraderie, that exists within the School. It's a shared set of values and a sense of all working together that is hard to define in words. We are not alone in this belief. Visitors to our School regularly comment on the congenial atmosphere on campus. This spirit encompasses all year levels and is the result of careful attention to a number of factors.

Peninsula follows sound Christian values. Whether or not families have religious affiliations, the results, as shown by the behaviour of our students, attest to the value of inculcating these ethics in the routines of school life. Through our pastoral care and Tutor systems, our teachers enjoy a close relationship with their students. This knowledge gives them a solid appreciation of what each student needs educationally and socially.

Our excellent facilities include:
A new state of the art Senior Centre, New Science Centre (opening July 2016) Performing Arts Centre, with excellent Music, Dance and Drama studios.
Two double-court Junior Gymnasiums.
A Pavilion, which is used for functions and events and is open for coffee during term time.
Quality Senior and Junior Libraries.
Learning areas include Junior, Middle, Pre-Senior and Senior students.
Three ovals, two swimming pools and mod-grass tennis courts.
An extensive Senior PE Centre.
Our curriculum is designed to maximise the educational opportunities of our diverse, fully co-educational, open-entry student population. The framework for our teaching and learning is detailed in our PASS (Peninsula Academic Skill Set) document, which was developed after exhaustive research into the latest teaching techniques and learning styles.
PASS organises our educational approach into four elements: an effective learning environment, effective design for learning, effective teacher strategies and effective learner behaviours. Our commitment to a broad, differentiated curriculum means different things at the different stages of a student's life at The Peninsula School. It can be learning through play in our Early Childhood Centre; the 'Have a Go' attitude in our Junior School; our innovative Pathways@9 program for pre-senior students; and the focus on VCE in the Senior School.

Building self-esteem and resilience is important to the development of all children. The breadth of our co-curricular programs and House activities is such that all students are able to find some activity in which they can find enjoyment and success. Sport, music and drama opportunities abound at Peninsula. Our Personal Development program flourishes in the Middle School. A major draw card is the popular Cadet Unit. We also provide a range of interest-based activities, life skill programs, sporting and hobby pursuits. Community service is also a feature of the program.

We welcome international students from all over the world to our School. Our students come from as far afield as China, Japan, Germany, France and elsewhere in Europe, South East Asia, the US and South America.
We can cater for 50 male and 20 female boarders, while other students choose Homestay.
Our international students become part of a vibrant and caring school community in which a broad range of interests are carefully catered for.

Peninsula is renowned for its Pastoral Care program whichis founded on the principles of Positive Psychology. We believe an effective approach to pastoral care involves: Ensuring that students have a sense of safety, security and well being. Developing in students an understanding of their physical, emotional and personal development. Being consistent in expectations placed on students. Engendering respect and tolerance for difference. Cultivating student leadership opportunities. Engaging students in appropriate career and vocational experiences. Encouraging a Christian consciousness and moral values. Nurturing resilience in students. Building self worth, confidence and responsibility. Developing positive social relationships and interpersonal skills.

The core values which guide our School are:

Stewardship
As custodians of the School we are entrusted with the health and wellbeing of our community and our institute. Sounds principles of leadership and governance underpin all that we do in striving to ensure the prosperity and longevity of our school for the benefit of current and future generations. In enacting our stewardship, we choose service to our community over self interest.

Integrity
Our School motto Hold Fast To That Which Is Good underpins the moral and ethical principles by which we operate. We prize consistency of values and actions and are committed to always acting in a socially responsible and virtuous manner for the greater good of our community.

Coeducational learning
We are proudly coeducational. We offer a diverse, vibrant and challenging learning environment which promotes equality and fairness of opportunity. We believe that an integrated, coeducational approach best serves Australian society by promoting mutually respectful interactions between boys and girls in a safe, secure and rewarding environment.

Personal excellence
Our students are inspired and supported to develop their natural gifts and to become lifelong learners. We encourage students to understand that potential is best achieved through self reflection and the commitment to hard work. The School looks for opportunities to acknowledge individual improvement and personal best as well as celebrating those who achieve at the highest level.

Community spirit
We are a community in which a sense of affiliation and connectedness flourishes. We boast an enviable culture that is underpinned by acceptance, friendship and interdependence. An ethic of service abounds in our School family which helps account for the commonplace, selfless, individual and community actions that go to enriching the lives of others.

Christian faith
The School is founded on the Anglican tradition through which we are guided by God’s love and grace. Students are encouraged to explore the spiritual dimensions of their lives and to embrace Christian principles. We are a diverse and inclusive community which welcomes international students and respects the beliefs of all faiths.
Every school wants to believe that it offers something special, something just a little bit different from other schools.

At Peninsula, we too believe that we have a certain spirit, more than just camaraderie, which exists within the School. It’s a shared set of values and a sense of all working together that is hard to define in words.

We’re not alone in this belief. Visitors to our School regularly comment on the congenial atmosphere on campus. This spirit encompasses all year levels and is the result of careful attention to a number of factors.

• Peninsula follows sound Christian ethics. Whether or not you personally have religious affiliations, the results, as shown by the behavior of our student body, attest to the value of inculcating these ethics in the routines of School life.

Through the Pastoral Care and Tutor systems our teachers enjoy a close relationship with their students. They know them individually, ‘warts and all’. This personal knowledge gives them a much greater appreciation of what each student needs, educationally and socially.

• Teachers are available during non-class times to offer extra help should students need it.

• Students are encouraged to respect one another, the teachers and the School.

• Co-educational schooling promotes comfortable and healthy interaction between boys and girls.

• Our sub-school structure gives students of all ages their own space on campus.

These factors contribute to the creation of an environment that is safe for students to play, conducive for them to learn and encourages them to grow.
We are justifiably proud of Peninsula and the well-rounded, well-educated, considerate and community-minded young people who constitute our past and present student body.
