Celebrating 125 years of excellence in girls' education throughout 2011, Wenona is a non-denominational day and boarding school in North Sydney. Wenona continues to embrace change to make the most of technology and other opportunities.
A non-selective school, Wenona has a well-earned reputation for outstanding and impressive academic results. Our students benefit from small class sizes, professional and engaging teaching and learning across a broad range of subjects, innovative programs and effective use of technology.
We are proud of our caring community and academic peer culture, where successes are celebrated.
Girls enjoy the use of our Evening Study Centre, professional counselling and careers advice, and enrichment and extension.
Our broad co-curricular program, which includes performing arts, debating and many sports, extends the academic curriculum, providing experiences in leadership, cooperative teamwork and sportsmanship.
We respond to girls’ age-appropriate learning needs by providing distinct Junior School, Middle School and Senior College structure and activities.
We value individuality and the development of self-efficacy and optimism. A range of challenging activities help develop a love of learning, encourage risk-taking and foster confidence and independence.
Our teachers understand how girls learn, and they care about each girl's progress. At Wenona, we celebrate achievement. Girls’ talents and abilities are nurtured through close student-teacher interaction in the classroom, through academic care structures, and through a rich range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Our boarders enjoy living in a peaceful haven close to all the cultural opportunities of a big city. Our friendly boarding community welcomes girls from other parts of Sydney and Australia and elsewhere in the world. Wenona's philosophy values diversity and inclusiveness. Our CRICOS Provider Code is 02275A. Contact us to visit the Boarding House and meet our Director of Boarding.
Boarding is celebrated at Wenona, an inclusive school which values diversity.
We pride ourselves on providing a safe and supportive environment for all girls in our care. Girls enjoy independence, respect, flexibility and fun as well as ample opportunities to pursue a wide range of academic and other activities.
Boarding is an important part of our heritage which celebrates excellence in girls' education since 1886. Up to 50 girls from Years 7 to 12 live in recently refurbished heritage accommodation in the heart of the School.
Our small and friendly boarding community welcomes girls from all over Australia and elsewhere in the world, who enjoy academic benefits in a vibrant community.
Boarding provides girls with a secure environment where long-lasting friendships are formed, enriching life and broadening horizons.
Director of Boarding Miss Emma Hegerty leads a team of hand-picked and dedicated staff who are carefully chosen to support each student.
Wenona's central yet safe location is right next to green and spacious St Leonards Park, and just a short walk from North Sydney Station and Sydney Harbour.
On weekends, girls experience Sydney life through activities such as visits to the Aquarium, walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge to the Rocks Markets and Darling Harbour or taking the ferry to Manly for some shopping.
Boarders waste no time travelling to and from school. Those involved in Wenona's many sporting, debating and cultural activities enjoy being right on site for training, rehearsals and many competitions.
The Boarding House is connected to Wenona's Information Centre. A dedicated prep supervisor helps Middle School students with their homework. Senior College boarders have access to the Evening Study Centre (ESC), open from 5pm to 8pm Monday to Thursday, and staffed by teachers from all curriculum areas.
Full boarding, the traditional form of boarding, is fully residential during school terms. Girls have opportunities for weekend leave with family or friends.
Weekly boarding allows girls to enjoy the benefits of boarding life during the week, but be at home with their families at weekends.
Temporary boarding provides short-term stays for Wenona day girls whose parents who are required to travel overseas, or whose family circumstances are undergoing change. Temporary boarding is subject to the availability of places.

Five students’ major works have been nominated for inclusion in HSC showcase presentations.
Wenona Principal Dr Briony Scott congratulates Wenona’s Class of 2014 on their HSC results and their commitment to achieving their best.
"Our students have been rewarded with some outstanding results and we share their joy and excitement,” Dr Scott said. “We thank their teachers and parents for nurturing them over many years.
“While the academic results are impressive, they only form part of the picture. True education involves much more than achieving an ATAR, rank or mark. We are proud of the ‘renaissance’ women of Wenona’s Class of 2014. They are creative, resilient and articulate, and we thank them for their contributions to many areas of School life, including service, music, sport, debating, drama, and leadership.
“We are very proud of all our students who make the most of their many opportunities to develop their strengths and use their skills and talents to serve and shape their world for the better. The Wenona community wishes them well in the years ahead.”
We welcome your interest in Wenona, a day and boarding school for girls established in 1886 with the motto Ut Prosim, that I may serve.
At Wenona, our mission is to engage, love, challenge and inspire every student.
We believe passionately in the effectiveness of girls’ schools in empowering young women to discover and develop their strengths and talents. The research literature tells us that it is in single sex environments that girls feel most free to pursue their interests to the best of their abilities, inside and outside the classroom.
It is my privilege to work with a team of staff who genuinely believe in the achievement of each girl, from her youngest years, through adolescence to her final examinations, valedictory ceremony and beyond.
Our specialist staff at Woodstock Infants, the Junior School, Middle School and Senior College, as well as the Boarding House, are themselves life-long learners, equipped to bring out the best in our students, pastorally and academically.
In partnership with parents and our community, our commitment at Wenona is to inspire in our students a sense of hope and purpose.
Wenona also offers a healthy environment, rich with opportunities outside the classroom. Through involvement in sports, debating, creative arts, leadership and service, girls discover valuable lessons in creativity, teamwork and work/life balance, lessons they will take with them throughout their lives.
We aim to see young women graduating from Wenona as intelligent, gracious, compassionate and capable adults. We recognise each girl as an individual, with her own passions to discover and her own contributions to make as she steps out of our gates.
It is our goal for each girl to grow from strength to strength, developing courage and resilience and growing strong and capable and happy; ready to make a difference in her world.
