About Us

International Baccalaureate at Wesley College

Wesley College is one of the leading International Baccalaureate (IB) coeducational schools in Australia, and is the only school in Victoria to offer an IB Programme which spans from Primary through to Senior School.

Our world-class IB Programme includes:
• The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) – 3 Years-olds to Year 6
• The Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) – Years 7 to 10
• The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) - Years 11 and 12

The IB Programme applies Wesley’s ethos of a True Education, providing a balanced approach to learning, with an emphasis on developing the whole person. It aims to instil in our students enquiring, internationally- minded thinking, in order to become active, compassionate, global citizens.

Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)

At Wesley College, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is focused on building our students’ conceptual understanding, knowledge, skills and attitudes, not only to excel in their studies, but also for their personal growth and understanding of the world. It is grounded in a deep belief about the nature of learning and a desire to develop students who have an international outlook.

Six transdisciplinary themes of global significance provide a dynamic framework for exploration and study:
• Who we are
• Where we are in place and time
• How we express ourselves
• How the world works
• How we organise ourselves
• Sharing the planet

An international education is dynamic and responds to ever-changing global needs. Through an exploration of concepts such as conflict resolution, cultural identity, individual and collective responsibility and sustainability, we aim to develop in our children an understanding of their power to enact change at personal, local and global levels.
— Wesley College Primary Staff

Middle Years Programme (IB MYP)

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) enables students to learn and grow during a pivotal time in their lives. It builds on the knowledge and skills developed through the IB PYP, fostering a sense of intellectual curiosity, and providing students with an opportunity to express their thoughts and perspectives on what they have learnt.

Diploma Programme (IB DP)

Wesley offers a number of pathways to Senior School students, and a growing number of students (nearly half the Year 12 cohort), are electing to do our globally recognised International Baccalaureate Programme (IB DP).

Our IB DP provides a rigorous two-year pre-university curriculum, characterised by:
• Academic breadth, depth and rigour, which are recognised by universities worldwide
• Emphasis on promoting international awareness among students
• Attention to developing socially responsible citizens of the world with an awareness of global perspectives

At Wesley, we work with each student to help them select the study path that is right for them, to ensure they make informed choices about their future.

The IB DP is suited to students who aspire to pursue tertiary studies at university in Australia or overseas, and are interested in developing their international awareness and communication skills.

Community College

The Community College at Wesley provides for the myriad of activities that occur outside normal school hours. It offers a range of programs designed to support families, encourage individual learning and provide positive outcomes for the Wesley and broader community. Programs are available year round and are offered at all campuses and also the College’s Clunes and Outdoor Education sites.

The Wesley College Institute

An integral part of Wesley College, it harnesses creative competencies through connections with partners such as universities, community organisations and philanthropic groups. It encourages a culture of learning, reflection and connection in the College to advance educational practice and contribute to community debate.

The Institute has already been instrumental in a number of projects of national and international significance. Such opportunities allow Wesley staff to further their understanding of educational issues in both an academic and practical context, by undertaking projects on secondment. This places Wesley teachers at the forefront of international educational research.

The Wesley College Foundation

Since its establishment in 1866, Wesley College has relied on the generosity of its donors and benefactors-alumni, parents past parents and community friends - to enhance its facilities, develop its academic programs, fund the rich diversity of cocurricular and sporting activities, and increase the number of scholarships on offer.

The Wesley College Foundation was established in 1978 and is the vehicle that raises funds to assist the College with so much of its vital work that directly benefits every Wesley student. It seeks to inspire financial support through a comprehensive philanthropic program that includes raising funds for: buildings and facilities, scholarships, library, sport, the performing and visual arts, Yiramalay and The Wesley College Institute. It also promotes bequests through The Sapere Aude Bequest Society.

Wesley College is establishing Learning in Residence, an innovative residential facility to be built adjacent to the Senior School at the Glen Waverley campus. Scheduled to open in Term 4, 2016, this exciting, multipurpose, senior years (Years 10-12) residential development will provide a real-life context for holistic experiential learning which builds on the rich history of such residential experiences at Wesley – a century of boarding, two decades of Outdoor Education and the highly-acclaimed residential learning programs in Clunes and Yiramalay.

The architectural design, location and programs have been designed to further enhance learning in the senior years and will again provide students - locally, nationally and internationally - with the benefits of an outstanding Wesley residential experience. Learning in Residence will be a dynamic and diverse community providing a vibrant and safe environment that will stimulate the intellectual, emotional, physical, social, cultural and spiritual development of the students in residence.
