We provide a progressive and broad curriculum, established on current and emerging theories and innovative practice, from ELC to Year 12, for day students and boarding from Year 9.

Our School operates across five campuses. Three are located in the Melbourne metropolitan areas of Wheelers Hill, Caulfield, and Malvern.

Two are dedicated experiential campuses. Yarra Junction; located in rural Victoria, focused on sustainability and outdoor education, and Newton Hall Nanjing; our China campus that facilitates our Year 9 internationalism program.

We are authorised to implement the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) and an IB World Middle Years Programme (MYP) Candidate school.

The school’s Internationalism Program, based at its Nanjing Campus in China, provides around 380 Year 9 students each year with the unique experience of living and learning in another country for five weeks.
The Nanjing Campus, which opened in 1998, was the first international campus for an Australian school.
The Internationalism Program recognises your child will not only be a citizen of Australia but a citizen of the world, enjoying many opportunities to live and work in countries other than their own.
Our belief is that the most effective means for preparing students to meet that challenge is through the intensive study of another language and culture, including a period of immersion in that culture.
In establishing the campus in China, Caulfield Grammar School has chosen a partner country which will have a profound influence on the evolution of the global community in the coming century – politically, culturally and, particularly, economically. Caulfield Grammar School is proud to be part of the conceptual re-positioning and engagement of Australia within the Asian region.
In Nanjing, from our own purpose-built facility, students undertake a structured program of five interrelated themes: heritage, work, family, education and environment. Students are provided with opportunities to come to know Chinese students and their families through our link with Nanjing Middle School (the high school affiliated with Normal University, one of the key schools in China), and to learn about the patterns of their daily lives. They are able to experience the city of Nanjing and its culture first-hand, and also undertake excursions to Beijing and Shanghai.
The program fosters personal independence through active learning in a different setting. Students acquire many practical skills associated with living, learning and operating in an unfamiliar cultural environment. The Internationalism Program also allows participants to learn a great deal about themselves and when necessary, modify their existing culture paradigm through their close encounter with another culture and language.
iPads allow students to undertake research tasks and stay in touch with family and friends.
For those who elect not to spend time in Nanjing, a unit of study based in Melbourne is designed to provide opportunities to understand Australia’s global connections and patterns of cultural, economic, social and environmental activity.

Why choose to board at Caulfield Grammar School? 

Boarders at Caulfield Grammar School’s Caulfield campus in Melbourne generally come from country Victoria and Southern New South Wales, along with a small contingent of students from other states and overseas. Students come to experience the rich and varied learning programs of Caulfield Grammar while enjoying the benefits of boarding life and all that Melbourne has to offer. Caulfield Grammar has always been a boarding school and is committed to providing a secure, supportive and caring learning environment for girls and boys living away from home.

Caulfield Grammar School’s boarding house is the closest coeducational APS boarding school to the heart of Melbourne, offering boarding for boys and girls – brothers and sisters. Boys and girls share common recreation and dining facilities but are accommodated in separate boarding houses. Students have supervised study blocks in which tutors are available. All living arrangements, including meals, social activities and study are supervised by boarding staff.

Computers are situated throughout the boarding houses and are all linked to the school’s computer network, enabling students to access the school’s online educational resources. Each bedroom within the boarding house has network access for students who wish to bring in their own computer.

While enjoying the friendly, family atmosphere of the small boarding community of around 95 boarders, students can enjoy the excellent facilities of Caulfield Campus, including: library, fully equipped  gymnasium, music school, tennis courts, indoor basketball courts, netball courts, 650 seat auditorium, performing arts studio, playing fields and a heated indoor swimming pool.

Caulfield’s location, only 8 kms from the city is well serviced by public transport.  Boarders are ideally located to access the attractions of one of the world’s most liveable cities, including shops, theatres, beaches and sporting venues.

Caulfield Grammar School believes that every student needs and deserves individual care. Children are provided with a strong network of support through a well developed structure of pastoral care, with the house system as its core.

Within the Junior School, the house system and buddy program complement the individual attention of classroom teachers and support staff.

In the Secondary School, each student is a member of a house, and each house is led by the Head of House (Year 10-12), Head of House (Year 7-9) and House Tutors who meet with students each morning. Additionally, teachers of Years 7 and 8 work in teams to ensure students have access to a close network of staff during these transitional years. A strong peer support program is also a feature.

Counsellors and Chaplains at each campus play an important role in activities within the school and provide specialist guidance in personal matters.

ATARs: 
Based on students’ Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR):

  • 4 per cent of Caulfield Grammar graduates are in the top 1 per cent of the State’s graduates
  • 21 per cent are in the top 5 per cent
  • 41 per cent are in the top 10 per cent
  • 61 per cent are in the top 20 per cent
  • 75 per cent are in the top 30 per cent.

The Median ATAR is 84.10.

These are outstanding results for an open entry school.

Study Scores:

Of the Caulfield Grammar Class of 2018, 23.4 per cent achieved study scores of 40 or more (out of a maximum of 50).

Dux: We are pleased to confirm that the award of Dux for 2018 will be shared by Emmy Sawires and Jerry Mao, both from Wheelers Hill Campus.  Emmy and Jerry gained an ATAR of 99.95, placing them among the top 0.05% of graduates from across Victoria.
