Chanel College is a secondary co-educational College committed to the development of the whole person – academic, spiritual, emotional, physical, social and cultural. We offer programs and opportunities to develop each of these dimensions. As a Catholic school, our Catholic Ethos and Catholic identity are very important to us. The College is built on the traditions of the Mercy Sisters and the Marist Brothers who are the founders of the College. Our aim is to provide a safe, caring environment where the students are valued for their own special gifts and talents.
The College curriculum provides opportunities to support students on a variety of career pathways according to individual needs. Subjects designed for industry orientated students are catered for through the Vocational Education and Training (VET) program and the CHOICES program where students have the opportunity to be involved in Work Experience and School Based Traineeships and Apprenticeships.
Tertiary studies bound students can select subjects from diverse fields and may participate in the Start UniNow program, a program that is run in partnership with Central Queensland University.
Chanel College is a community rich in history and traditions and as such the College works to remember and honour this rich past.
Students at Chanel College are encourage to engage in a curriculum that develops the total talents of the individual. In recognising this need for a holistic education we developed a model that identified those key understandings and knowledge that students will need in order to become happy, active and successful members of the community. The vision for our learners was given life and is now known as the "Chaneligan".
Personified, the "Chaneligan" is Spiritually, Emotionally and Globally intelligent. He/She has developed a healthy lifestyle in its broadest sense and is equipped with those essential skills and knowledge (information), including a value for Life Long learning, necessary to succeed in the competitive world beyond the College. Grounded in our college Mission Statement, the "Chaneligan" reaffirms our commitment to the education of all aspects of the individual within a caring and supportive environment.
Chanel College remains committed to the ongoing process of school renewal, re-visioning and quality assurance. The renewal process is used to develop strategic directions for the next four years.
Technology is an integral part of the curriculum in the 21st century. The College's Technology Vision is to enable our students to access information and sources, make discerning judgments supporting the College ethos, “use technology for their integral development and the benefit of others”, to evaluate and organize information and to enable them to be lifelong learners, guided by the values of the Chanel College Mission Statement. All students in Years 9 – 12 have a lap top. Students are expected to be primarily responsible for the care and maintenance of their laptop.
Appropriate instruction will be given to students prior to students being allowed to take the laptop home. Students are to bring the laptop to school every day and charge the laptop at home each night.
Chanel students are involved in a broad range of extra-curricular activities including debating, public speaking, chess, choirs, bands and also have the opportunity to participate in the biannual musical. Chanel College has a busy sporting program which offers a diverse range of sports including netball, volleyball, futsal, hockey, soccer, rugby league, rugby union, athletics and swimming.
Community is at the heart of Chanel College's Pastoral Care system. Our vertical homerooms are designed to assist the students by way of listening, caring and supporting each other across all year levels. Each year level participates in a retreat program.
