 MATTHEW FLINDERS ANGLICAN COLLEGE

2021 Flinders Art Exhibition

Art appreciators are invited to the annual Flinders Art Exhibition from Tuesday, 26 October to Friday, 29 October in the Performance Centre at Matthew Flinders Anglican College in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

The four-day Flinders Art Exhibition is open to the whole College community, as well as people from the Sunshine Coast community.

This will be the 27th year the College has presented the exhibition which features hundreds of artworks created by students from Prep through to Year 12.

The art spans a variety of approaches and materials from two-dimensional art, sculpture and printmaking, through to digital media, animation and virtual reality.

Visual art is an important offering in the College curriculum with lessons provided as core subjects in the Primary School and Middle School, and as electives in the Senior School.

Flinders Head of Art Mrs Ros Braithwaite said the exhibition was a vibrant celebration of the students' creativity and a chance to acknowledge the staff for their care and guidance of the students throughout 2021.

“In a world where the focus has at times been negative and overwhelming, the students have this year found solace in their creative voice and in exploring their own unique perspectives,” Ros said.

“Visitors will notice the Year 12 Art students have produced their own projects with inspiration from such things as the materials themselves and topics of place, politics, gender, society, psychology, power and connections,” she said.

“Meanwhile, the Year 11 Art students have experimented with a vast array of processes and materials to prepare for their final year of art in 2022, with some unique approaches to representing art through different lenses and codes.

“Students in the Flinders Primary School and Middle School have also had an exciting year of exploration through painting, mixed media, drawing and sculpture.

“We are sure visitors will be impressed to observe how the students explore both traditional and contemporary approaches with art and have produced some amazing and unique responses to their world.”

The sculptural piece Touch Me Not by Year 12 student Kirra Langmead was chosen as the artwork to advertise the Flinders Art Exhibition.

The students in the art department saw Kirra’s painstaking sculpture evolve over a long period of time and were excited to finally be able to touch and interact with it when it was complete.
