The school years are a one-off journey delivering opportunities and experiences which resonate throughout a lifetime.
At Scotch we achieve outstanding success in those things societies like to measure whilst valuing a full school life that sets the same expectations when pursuing academic goals, pulling on a football jumper, tuning a cello, learning lines for a play or heading off to camp.
We believe in establishing sound foundations while lighting the fires for future growth. Strong traditions breed values of integrity, tolerance and service, while educational research delivers an innovative curriculum promoting curiosity and self-worth. We are fortunate with our extensive grounds, exceptional facilities and staff of real commitment who, in building relationships of trust and intimacy, create the space for boys to question, initiate and lead.
We value each boy’s time with us. It is a journey based on Christian principles; one full of energy and diversity; one that unearths interests and talents; and one we believe leaves boys in great shape for the next leg in a challenging, exciting world.
Mr I. Tom Batty, Principal
Scotch College is one of the most respected and dynamic schools in Australia, providing an integrated range of educational programs for boys from the Preparatory Year to Year 12.
Founded in 1851, Scotch College is located on one campus in the heart of suburban Melbourne. The School’s magnificent grounds span 26 hectares and are flanked by the Yarra River.
As part of Scotch’s rich heritage, students have access to some of the most impressive facilities of any school. Whether a boy has an interest in the creative arts, sports or academic excellence, he has unparalleled opportunities to achieve his maximum potential.
Through the guidance of outstanding teaching staff and a flexible and modern curriculum, students are given the finest academic education, whilst learning the core values of integrity and social responsibility.
Creative Arts: Unparalleled Opportunities for Expression
Learning to play a musical instrument, create a piece of sculpture or perform before an audience encourages students to explore their creative and artistic potential.
At Scotch, boys enjoy a range and depth of musical, dramatic and artistic options to cater for even the most talented and dedicated individual. Performances of orchestras, bands, choirs and plays take place throughout the entire school year.
Sport and Activities Programs: Encouraging Personal Growth
Through Scotch’s sporting program, students learn the values of competition and teamwork. Scotch participates in the inter-school sporting activities organised by the Associated Public Schools of Victoria. A wide range of sports and teams allows almost every boy to compete in weekly competitions.
Facilities for sport include seven sports-fields, an all-weather hockey field, eighteen synthetic tennis courts, a Junior School gymnasium and an impressive indoor Sports Centre featuring a heated swimming and diving pool, basketball courts, gymnasium, three squash courts, weight-training complex and extensive rowing facilities situated on the campus on the banks of the Yarra River.
An active outdoors and services program is part of every boy’s experience, providing opportunities for personal growth and development.
Activities such as bushwalking, sailing, Scuba diving, Scouts, Cadets and Indigenous Partnership Program are just some of those on offer.
Building on its Articles of Association, The School's Aim is ‘… to deliver an education which, secure in the traditions of our past and our Christian belief, opens boys’ minds to the rich diversity of the world in which they live and challenges them to question and explore everything they find, with integrity, humour and compassion. And to do this in an exciting, intimate environment which nurtures self-expression and self-worth while promoting the uniqueness of each boy’s journey.’
Scotch College is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. Christian teachings underpin Scotch’s philosophy and practices.
Fundamental to all of Scotch’s programs is a commitment to pastoral care. The School believes in fostering an environment that is supportive, caring and fulfilling.
A highly effective framework ensures that each student receives individual support and attention, creating an environment in which each student can develop self-esteem and a belief in his ability to achieve his ambitions.
Boarders are an integral part of the School community and boarding at Scotch gives boys from country areas and overseas access to an education of outstanding quality.
For families living closer to Scotch, weekly boarding provides boys with the benefits of a caring environment on the campus during the week, leaving weekends free to relax at home.
Structured study periods allow students to complete homework and pursue their academic interests. Students also benefit from the encouragement and assistance from resident teaching staff, assistants and matrons.
