ST AUGUSTINE'S COLLEGE, CAIRNS QLD
A specialist Catholic Secondary school in the Marist education of boys, located in the heart of Cairns, the educational and business capital of Tropical North Queensland.
Life at Saints is marked by a strong family spirit and there is a sense of both fun and purpose prevalent in the College community.
Staff members aim to provide the highest quality of care, support, supervision and instruction for the young people who are entrusted to them.
Principal Matthew Brennan says "that at the college, it is the collective hope of the staff and students that - as Saint Marcellin Champagnat would have it - every child in our care is known and loved, accepted for who they are, supported in their endeavours, challenged for their shortcomings and admired for simply just having a go."
“A mark of any successful school is the way in its continual search to seek out the best in educational innovation, it can let go of outmoded ways, without compromising those things that are most valuable in its wisdom and experience,” Matt says.
St Augustine’s College was founded in 1930 and it is one of the oldest Catholic day/boarding schools in the Cairns area.
Boarding at the college caters for boys and girls, with the girls attending St Monica’s College during the day.
Students can be full-time or weekly boarders and the college attempts to work with families in responsive and flexible ways to meet the needs and particular situations of each.
Boarders come from Cape York, Torres Strait, Papua New Guinea, Nhulunbuy & Alyangula, Mossman, Port Douglas, Atherton Tablelands, Innisfail & Tully areas.
St Augustine’s is a school constantly evolving to meet the modern needs of every student; yet it still holds fast to its traditional belief that all young people deserve to have reason to believe, to hope and to love, and to be able to engage their world in informed, creative, responsible and just ways.
