Step up to a journey of educational excellence at Stuartholme School

As a dynamic and leading girls’ school, we cultivate an atmosphere that shapes the future change makers of the world. Grounded in our Sacred Heart charism, each student’s unique potential is fostered to provide the platform to make a unique impact and difference in the world.

Established in the forward-thinking vision of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat in 1800, Stuartholme School stands alongside a network of over 200 Sacred Heart Schools across 44 countries, epitomising a commitment to a global outlook.

Unique to Brisbane, Stuartholme is the only Catholic Day and Boarding School for girls in Year 5 to 12. Nestled across 21 hectares within the heritage-listed buildings, Stuartholme Boarding offers students a sisterhood of over 120 boarders from rural and regional areas across Australia and overseas.

As Stuartholme shapes the leaders of tomorrow, the school values the importance of early years in fostering life-long learning. The introduction of Year 5 in 2024 and Year 6 in 2025 ensures a seamless progression from Junior School to Secondary School, offering a tailored program that fosters a rich sense of community and belonging.

With award winning programs and innovative and transformative approaches to education for young women, our leading teachers and specialist staff challenge students to become independent, collaborative, and critical thinkers, equipping students with the capabilities and confidence to actively engage in their learning, providing a balanced educational journey.

With a student body of over 700, Stuartholme strikes the perfect balance, of a small school with an extensive range of opportunities. From extension subjects to camps, retreats, and activities in Sport, Music, Visual and Performing Arts, students actively engage, with over 93% of students participating in one or more activities.

Embedded in our educational practices is the school's Social Justice Program where our students raise awareness of issues and are provided opportunities to take action to make a difference. Through student-led programs such as the Ponytail project; Harmony days and Red Earth Immersion, the school fosters these opportunities to prepare and inspire students to be active, informed, and responsible global citizens.

Stuartholme extends its influence globally, offering reciprocal exchange opportunities with approximately 25 Sacred Heart Schools worldwide through the Student Exchange Program. This international exposure broadens perspectives, enriching the educational journey for students.

Steeped in our rich history we provide a contemporary and transformative education with heart for young women, so they can challenge a modern world and make a global impact.

Stuartholme Boarders share a common vision: to create a boarding community that enables each individual to flourish in a way that helps empower others at the same time.

At Stuartholme School, our Boarding House is at the centre of the school, thus in essence, is the heart of the school. Boarders bring warmth and a genuine connection to all they meet, they are open and generous to all new students knowing that a friendly face is very important, not only on the first day, but on each and every day. Our boarders live by our school motto ‘Cor Unum’ – one heart.

In our Boarding House we offer opportunities for each girl to achieve their very best both academically and socially. We develop academic profiles of each boarder to ensure they know their individual strengths as a learner first and foremost and are offered the appropriate support to gain skills in areas that need further development.

That’s why I did such a broad range of subjects at school. All of my teachers encouraged me to think for myself, and to question what I was learning. That’s a really important quality in my work now".

Since joining Stuartholme in 2020 I am often asked what makes Stuartholme unique. As an educator with over 20 years experience, I have had the privilege of working in a number of schools, but there is something inherently special about Stuartholme and our students.

With less than 700 students, the School prides itself on being small enough for each student to be personally known, yet large enough to offer an extensive, ever-changing and dynamic range of opportunities.

As Brisbane’s only Catholic girls’ boarding school, Stuartholme’s boarding community remains in the centre of our heritage-listed main building. 150 girls live at Stuartholme and every interaction I experience is friendly and open-hearted. The boarders become sisters in the truest sense of the word. We see this bond stay just as strong years after they leave the Stuartholme gates.

Stuartholme is one of over 200 Sacred Heart Schools worldwide, an order founded by Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat in 1800. Sophie’s goal was to educate girls so they could have a transforming influence in society. Her educational approach remains relevant today, putting the students at the heart so they can be challenged in a supportive and affirming environment to reach their potential in all areas of development – spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical.

It is well established that optimising success for today’s school students is a three-way connect whereby staff and the parents and students rally to deliver outstanding results. Our Growing to Great school innovation plan, optimises success for students through the integration of learning and wellbeing in innovative ways. (Link to video?)

As leaders in girls’ education, our teachers adapt to each student’s learning style, providing the best educational outcome for each student. We pride ourselves on supporting, extending and challenging our students to optimise pathways for their future learning.

In the words of one of our Sisters, Mother Janet Erskine Stuart, a “Sacred Heart education is not meant to turn the children out small and finished but seriously begun on a wide basis. They must leave us with self-knowledge, energy, and purpose.”

I warmly invite you to visit Stuartholme and discover the vibrant and compassionate community which encompasses the values of faith, learning, community, social justice and personal growth that empowers young women to lead. Our community is a true testament of what a Stuartholme School education can provide.

Daniel Crump
Acting Principal

Stuartholme School has been selected as one of the most forward-thinking educational institutions, earning a spot on The Educator's 5-Star Innovative Schools 2023 list. The recognition as a 5-Star Innovative School is a testament to the commitment and vision of Principal Daniel Crump and the entire Stuartholme community.
