Junior School: Kindergarten - Year 6

The Kindergarten to Year 6 students make up the Junior School at Swan Christian College. Contained fully within the grounds of the wider school, classes for the first eight years of schooling are grouped in learning clusters with access to specialist facilities not usually available to primary aged children. With a comprehensive support network, students enjoy an opportunity to thrive and learn through a program that recognises their individual needs and learning styles.

Please feel free to make an appointment to explore the opportunities for your children at our school. With regular tours also available we would love to talk to you about the possibility of partnering with you in the education of your children.

Middle School: Year 7- Year 9

Middle schooling is an intentional approach to the teaching, learning and pastoral needs of young people. There is no single model of middle schooling. Rather it includes a broad range of ways of organising Middle School including teaching and learning, pastoral and spiritual elements.

In broad terms, “Middle Schooling” usually refers to 10-15 year olds or a period described as early adolescence. Here at Swan our structure currently embraces a three part model of schooling: Years 10-12 Senior School, Years 7-9 Middle School and Kindergarten - Year 6 Junior School. At Swan Christian College we believe that early adolescence is a unique time of development and we aim to grow young people in knowledge and wisdom.

Our purpose is to develop in each student the personal attributes described by the College’s Seven Pillars, namely, Knowledge, Courage, Service, Wisdom, Engagement, Leadership and Spirituality. The work of the Senior School embraces our Christian faith, and our declaration is that Christ is central to our identity with ultimate ownership and sovereignty over our school. Education programs are delivered to students by motivated and talented Christian teachers who embrace a Christian worldview.

Swan Trade Training Centre

The simple fact of life is that the ‘traditional’ school model does not necessarily suit all students.  Opened in June 2012 and operated as a trade-specific arm of Swan Christian College, Swan Trade Training Centre (STTC) provides quality trade training and career pathways in an innovative and supportive school-based environment.

Swan Trade Training Centre

The STTC offers a fixed two-year course over Years 11 and 12 allowing students to graduate from Swan Christian College with their WACE, including the successful completion of the Certificate III Business and Certificate II Pre-apprenticeship in their chosen trade course inclusive of work experience. Courses are developed with industry input that ensures the training offered is current and relevant.

Swan Trade Training Centre aims to produce confident, well-rounded students who become ‘top class’ apprentices equipped with industry grade skills and professionalism, and pride themselves on a job well done.

To make the transition to public transport options as easy and safe as possible, Transperth has put together a website that contains everything that parents need to know to help make your child's move to independent travel as simple and stress-free as possible. Please visit getonboard.transperth.wa.gov.au to access these resources.

School Bus Services (SBS)

The Government of Western Australia has been providing Transport Assistance to Western Australian families for more than 80 years. The size of our state dictates that many families live great distances from their local school. School Bus Services relieves the burden on these families by providing free transport to eligible students to and from their nearest appropriate school.

SBS also provides orange school bus services for students with special needs.

If your child resides outside of the designated Public Transport Area, you might be eligible to apply for SBS transport assistance.

Please visit the School Bus Services website for the most up-to-date information on students' eligibility for transport assistance. If your child is eligible, you can apply for transport assistance via this link: www.schoolbuses.wa.gov.au/TransportAssistance/OnlineServices/Howtoapply.aspx

Traditionally Australian school students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 have sat NAPLAN tests in March. The tests measure achievement in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar) and Numeracy. Results are reported collectively as a College per year group as well as individually.

This year NAPLAN was cancelled due to COVID-19. Victorian middle school students have only just returned after more than two terms away from classrooms. Like Tasmania, ACT, NT and SA we have been very blessed here in WA.

In lieu of NAPLAN, the West Australian government introduced OLNA (Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment) as a tool to indicate whether students have met the literacy and numeracy requirements for graduation with a WACE. OLNA is usually assessed in Year 10 for those who don’t meet the Year 9 NAPLAN benchmarks (Band 8).

I am delighted to advise that this year’s OLNA results have been stunning with about 85% of students meeting most of the numeracy and literacy (reading and also writing) requirements for graduation. This is a very significant increase in achievement by Year 9s in previous years including strong results in writing. The results may be due to the later point in the year when the tests were conducted; however, they are a testament to the effective teaching of reading, writing and numeracy in Year 9. Continued wide reading at home is critical to improvement in both literacy and numeracy.

A copy of the overall results appears below:

Principal's Welcome

I warmly welcome you and your family to the Swan Christian College website. We hope you enjoy exploring our College online.

Our inspiration for all we do at Swan comes from a simple yet powerful message: “You are the light of the world,” as Jesus once said in Matthew 5:14-16. This isn’t just a verse: it is a call to action!

Think about Benjamin Franklin, the famous thinker, and inventor. He didn’t just talk about street lamps; he showed his neighbours by placing a candle in a lantern outside his home. He’d light it every evening, making the area safer and reducing crime.

This story reminds us to let our light shine. At Swan, we live by our core values: Respect, Integrity, Spirituality, and Excellence (RISE). We aim to be that guiding light, showing our love for God and positively impacting our community.

Swan Christian College is an environment where your child can rise, shine and flourish! Our College is a Kindergarten to Year 12 co-educational school accommodating over 1540 students and comprises four sub-schools:

  • Junior School: Kindergarten to Year 6
  • Senior School: Year 7 – Year 12
  • Swanonline: delivering quality online learning for Year 7 – Year 12
  • Swan Trade Training Centre: Years 11 and 12

As a College, we aim to provide multiple opportunities and pathways for success after school in training, employment or service by:

  • Creating a College culture where excellence and achievement are expected and celebrated.
  • Engaging with parents to develop a stronger and more resilient College community.
  • Being a place where staff are unified in purpose and seeking excellence in professional practice and pastoral care of our students.
  • A place where students are engaged and belong.
  • Ensuring that financial and material resources are managed effectively to the highest business standards of integrity and sustainability.

We invite you to explore our website and see what we have to offer your child. Better yet, we encourage you to come and see our College in action at one of our College Tours.

It would be a delight to welcome you to our beautiful campus and share with you the learning opportunities available here.
