Established in 1882, Methodist Ladies' College has long been recognised as one of Melbourne’s finest independent Prep to Year 12 day and boarding schools for girls and a leader in co-ed Early Learning. MLC is renowned for our extensive curriculum and co-curricular choice, innovative approach to education and wellbeing, inspiring learning environments, and outstanding academic results.

As a non-denominational, open-entry College, we offer an inclusive and welcoming environment, where our students are empowered to be confident and resilient global citizens who possess the skills, knowledge and attitude to thrive throughout their schooling, and in an ever-changing world.

Unrivalled opportunity
Our College offers one of the most extensive and engaging curriculums and co-curricular offerings of any Australian non-government school. With over 60 subjects on offer across VCE, VCE VET and IB, diverse learning pathways across both secondary and primary school, and over 30 sports, and 20 music ensembles for all ages and abilities, MLC students are empowered to explore all their interests and talents.

Incredible teachers
Our students are supported by some of the best primary and secondary teachers in Melbourne. We provide our educators with extensive professional development so that we can proudly boast the most up-to-date and effective teaching methods and practices in the state. Furthermore, we have the advantage of providing one of the lowest student-to-staff member ratios of any Victorian all girls' school.

Integrated learning and wellbeing
MLC offers a positive and supportive approach to learning and wellbeing that is dedicated to every student’s journey. MLC students benefit from an evidence-based wellbeing approach across all year levels, providing students with the personalised support and a network of support necessary to thrive at school. We pride ourselves on supporting, nurturing and safeguarding our students’ emotional, spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing.

Our school curriculum offers an integrated approach to learning and wellbeing for girls from Year Prep to Year 12. Our curriculum sets us apart from other open-entry and independent schools in Victoria.

With one of the most extensive and engaging curriculum offerings of any non-government school in Australia, we focus on the learning progression of our students by carefully sequencing our subject pathways to ensure that knowledge builds on what was taught earlier and feeds into what will be taught later.
Located just seven kilometres from Melbourne, set among the safe and tree-lined streets of Kew, MLC’s renowned school campus offers empowering learning spaces to girls from Years Prep to 12.

With a combination of heritage-listed and contemporary buildings, along with secure gardens and recreational spaces, our Kew campus is an inspiring place for students to socialise, make discoveries, and engage deeply with their learning.

Whether students are working in our science laboratories or theatre, playing on our sports fields, diving into our swimming pool, or making use of one of our many music studios, art rooms, or dedicated libraries for both Junior and Secondary years, they make the most of the integrated technologies, professional equipment, and resources spread across our breathtaking campus.

Across Years 5 to 9, students also have the opportunity to experience the magic of our two MLC owned and dedicated remote campuses, MLC Banksia and MLC Marshmead, where we host our acclaimed Education Outdoors program.

MLC’s range of co-curricular activities is one of the most extensive and varied of any school in the country.

We offer many opportunities to participate, make new friends, get involved and experience new challenges through sport, the arts, music, and a wide variety of student-led clubs and societies.

Sport

Regardless of experience or skill, all students are encouraged to get involved in one of the over 30 sports on offer. Students of all abilities can access expert coaching, exceptional facilities, and a diverse range of group and individual sports. From College House competitions and before-school training to state and international-level competitions, there is something for everyone. In addition, we complement our sports offerings with our dedicated Health and Fitness program, emphasising mental and physical health through low to high-intensity training programs such as Pilates, yoga and spin.

Dramatic Arts

MLC’s co-curricular Dramatic Arts program features a strong emphasis on our students’ individual needs and the development of self-confidence and self-awareness through participation in experiential learning and a diverse range of productions. Both on stage and behind the scenes, students participate in theatre and musical productions, festivals, our Independent Student Theatre Company, Speech and Drama lessons created from the AMEB syllabus, and dedicated Dramatic Arts incursions and tours. Through developing and showcasing performance and stagecraft skills or learning how to stage a production as crew, students are encouraged to take risks and meet new challenges.

Music

Our comprehensive, diverse, and immersive Music program inspires students to explore their musical talents and abilities. Students can participate in more than 20 ensembles, bands, and performances, including Junior School Silver Strings, Amati Strings, Concert Choir, MLC Drumline and The Marching Band. In addition, private tuition in the instrument of their choice is available during the school day, led by our talented team of specialist musicians. Musical talents and curiosity are nurtured at all levels of ability and forms an important part of the student culture at MLC.

Student Clubs

Catering to every interest and passion among our student body, over 30 student-run clubs play an invaluable role in building a strong sense of belonging and community and developing leadership. There will always be other like-minded students to connect with, with clubs including action groups, hobbies and new skills or wellbeing. Furthermore, with staff support, students are encouraged to take the initiative and set up new clubs and committees to nurture their specific interests and connect with others.

For 140 years, MLC has been welcoming boarders from rural and regional Victoria, as well as from around Australia and the world.

Our Tiddeman Boarding House offers a warm and welcoming family atmosphere for approximately 75 students from Year 7 through to Year 12. Boarders get to experience all the opportunities that the College and Boarding House has to offer while creating lasting friendships and immersing themselves in their learning.

From the moment a new boarder arrives at Tiddeman House, she is always supported. We understand that the transition to boarding can be daunting, and our experienced and passionate team of staff are committed to delivering the best boarding, school, and residential experience.

From academic support, scheduled Prep time, and subject tutoring, through to extensive wellbeing support throughout the Boarding House and the College, Tiddeman House is an extraordinary place for boarding students to learn, live and discover their true interests and passions.

MLC is an open-entry, non-selective school that consistently ranks among the top 1% of private schools in Victoria for both Primary and Secondary education.

The contemporary and broad curriculum and extensive wellbeing programs offered at MLC engages all students to be independent, creative and adaptive thinkers. Internationally recognised for our extensive curriculum choice and outstanding academic results, MLC offers multiple academic pathways in Senior School - the VCE, VCE VET (Vocational Education and Training) with significant work-ready programs and IB (International Baccalaureate).

MLC fosters a consistently high academic performance culture. In 2022, 31% of our students achieved an ATAR of 95+ and 47% achieved over 90. 16 perfect VCE study scores were achieved. We are one of Australia's most successful IB schools, with our cohorts achieving at least one perfect score every year for the past twelve years. In 2022, 10% of the IB cohort achieved perfect scores of 45, and a further three students achieved 44, equivalent to an ATAR of 99.75

Our combined VCE, VCE VET, and IB results continue the College’s long tradition of academic excellence:

We enjoy a reputation for being one of Australia’s most innovative and successful girls' school for international students. Located in the multi-cultural city of Melbourne, our international students find MLC to be an enriching and supportive place to learn and often comment on their strong sense of belonging.

We welcome the global perspectives that international students bring to high school life. We limit the number of international student positions available, so we ensure our international students have the best possible experience and high levels of support.

Students are able to live on campus in our renowned Boarding House (Years 7-12 only), or with a parent or approved relative on a guardian visa.

Entry is via agents overseas or directly to MLC (completing the Application for Enrolment). Students will need to undertake an English proficiency test.
