Macte Virtute Et Litteris. Grow in Character and Scholarship.
As one of the oldest schools in Australia and Queensland's largest boarding school, The Rockhampton Grammar School offers everything your family needs.
From the moment they arrive, your boy or girl will be welcomed into the School family. Students from all ages and backgrounds are surrounded by a caring, supportive environment and given every opportunity to do their best.
To help them along the way, The Rockhampton Grammar School offers exceptional teachers, who are recognised for their passion and commitment. This extends not only to our outstanding academic results as Central Queensland's best performing school, but also to a huge range of extracurricular activities including sport, music, dance, agriculture, outdoor education and much more.
Grow in Character and Scholarship
For over 139 years, the School has produced outstanding men and women who have been guided by the motto, Macte Virtute Et Litteris, or Grow in Character and Scholarship.
This motto is more than just words, it is embedded in our School's culture. Education at The Rockhampton Grammar School has always extended beyond facts and figures to focus on the needs of every individual to be happy here and put their best foot forward.
Parents continue to choose The Rockhampton Grammar School not only because we perform well academically, but because we know that not every student is the same. We care about every individual student's learning and character development in all aspects of their life, not just during school hours.
The holistic nature of this experience means Rockhampton Grammar students emerge into society educated, well-rounded and confident. With this strong foundation, every child is equipped to pursue their ambitions, secure in their sense of self, and armed with the capacity to deal with whatever opportunties and challenges that life will place in their way.
A Love of Learning
RGS has an excellent academic reputation and delivers one of the most successful vocational education programmes in Queensland. We consistently earn the best overall results among schools in the Central Queensland region and over 95 percent of all graduates achieve at least one certificate-level qualification.
As an inclusive, non-selective school, the School works to ensure that every student has a valid academic pathway that leads to tertiary education or their chosen career. Our curriculum offers a rich selection of choices, including 36 senior subjects and 14 Vocational Educational Certificates.
Boarding
Valuing its position as Queensland's largest boarding school, RGS is very much about the people who reside within it. Boarding has formed the core of the School since our founding in 1881 and continues to be a cornerstone of our School.
Conveniently located in one of Queensland's regional centres, we are proud to be chosen by families throughout Central Queensland, Far North Queensland, the Northern Territory and overseas. We also take the responsibility seriously. More than a third of our Secondary School students are boarders and we do everything we can to make sure they feel safe, comfortable and happy.
The Early Years
The early years of a child's life are full of questioning and curiosity. At The Rockhampton Grammar School Early Learning Centre, we're here to help you answer some of those questions and inspire our students to ask more.
Located nearby the main School campus, our Early Learning facilities are the perfect place to grow and play. Children in various stages of development - from 6 weeks to 5 years old - are encouraged to explore their natural environment. With landscaped natural playgrounds, wet play areas, contemporary equipment and modern learning spaces, every space has been designed to inspire curiosity and wonder.
The Primary Years
To spark curiosity from an early age, we use a student-based learning framework in our Primary School. This means we design learning experiences that recognise and respond to the individual needs of each of our students. In doing so, our Primary students can absorb knowledge in a way that works for them.
The Secondary Years
The teenage years are a critically important time - when a student transitions from a child to a young adult. No one teaching strategy can match this dynamic period of growth and personal development. That's why we bring together the best research and people to cater for a diverse group of students, taking into account their abilities, needs, interests and learning styles.
Find Your Passion
At RGS, we believe a good education is about more than developing skills our students already have. Instead, it's about giving them the space to try new things and discover what they're truly passionate about.
Our co-curricular programme is designed to give your child this space and encourage all our students to have a go. This is because we know that participation from everyone is central to a successful school, regardless of ability or experience.
Our co-curricular offering at RGS is a key part of our difference, complementing academic pursuits, strengthening out community and maintaining School traditions. RGS is proud to offer 36 Co-Curricular Sports and Activities in our Secondary School.
Beyond the Classroom
A Rockhampton Grammar Education gives your child real-world experience, beyond the four walls of a classroom or a school campus.
Ritamada, the School's beachfront education facility, forms the backbone of the School's Outdoor Education programme. Set on 82-hectares along the Capricorn Coast, Ritamada takes students away from the routine of the classroom and extends curriculum into the great outdoors where they learn valuable life skills.
As Grammarians, agriculture runs thick in our blood, and is a fundamental part of our core business. RGS Agriculture is embedded across the curriculum, from primary all the way through senior courses and on to accelerated tertiary courses.
Facilities
Our extensive on-site facilities provide plenty of opportunities to step out of the box. Students make full use of an indoor gymnasium, two sporting ovals, indoor multi-purpose hall, dance studios, theatre, music rooms, undercover arena, outdoor Olympic size swimming pool, tennis and netball courts, beach volleyball court and cricket nets.
Off-site facilities are also available to cater to sports that need more space. We are proud to run an elite-class rowing club along the Fitzroy River and a rugby facility bordering the Botanic Gardens (with both playing and training fields) as part of the School's extensive co-curricular programme.
The School's agricultural programme is supported by a demonstration farm just a few minutes' drive from the main campus as well as a working cattle property and research facility nearby.
The Rockhampton Grammar School offers a strong Scholarship and Bursary program.
RGS Scholarships are available for Boarding and Day Students entering Year 7 or Year 10 only and are academic in nature. They are awarded based on school performance and ability. The Scholarship process allows the School to recognise children based on their potential to contribute to and derive great benefit from The Rockhampton Grammar School.
The Rockhampton Grammar School offers needs-based Bursaries to girls and boys entering RGS in Years 7 through 12, who would greatly benefit from an education at The Rockhampton Grammar School, but who without financial assistance would be otherwise unable to attend.
Bursaries are offered to a limited number of students (in Years 7 through 12) who are making good academic progress and who are willing to become constructive and involved members of The Rockhampton Grammar School Community, participating fully in all aspects of school life.

Thank you for considering The Rockhampton Grammar School and trusting us to work with you in the development of your child.
Parents, teachers, students and past students become part of the Grammar family from the moment they arrive and remain so, long after they depart. In every way, this is more than a place of learning - this is a family - and one of which we are all proud.
The holistic experience at RGS reflects our core belief that our students can achieve much more than academic results. We are proud to play a part in developing well-rounded individuals who understand values such as teamwork, self-discipline and gratitude. As a result, our students can make a positive contribution to their communities - both during their time with us and at home.
We invite you to find out more about us by visiting our website, giving us a call, or better yet - taking a tour around our beautiful campus. We would be delighted to see you in Rockhampton and hope to welcome you and your child soon.
