St Edmund’s College, Wahroonga is a Catholic Co-educational College in the Edmund Rice tradition from Years 5 -12 and caters for students with a sensory disability and/or a mild to moderate intellectual disability. St Edmund’s College offers small classes, excellent facilities and provides personalised NSW Educational Standards Authority (NESA) education programs. We are seeking applicants for the following position:  

Speech Pathologist – 0.6 part time to 1.0 full time Temporary position - Beginning Term 3, 2025 until mid-December 2025 

 The Speech Pathologist is responsible for the implementation of a best-practise whole school service delivery that will assist St Edmund’s to support the communication needs of students using an inclusive, tiered approach. The service delivery is based on the Response to Intervention model and roles and responsibilities include:  

  • Implementation of whole school communication assessments that are used to identify school priorities, evaluate effectiveness of the service delivery, track student progress (individually and collectively), and identify any students requiring additional support;  

  • Providing ongoing professional development to teaching staff to increase knowledge around the areas of communication, including expressive and receptive language, social skills and Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC);   

  • Developing, implementing and evaluating whole school communication programs that promote student communication competence alongside teaching staff and school Senior leadership team;  

  • Providing support for classes or small groups of students to enhance skill development in specific areas of communication in collaboration with teaching staff;  

  • Where necessary, providing individual student communication support in collaboration with families, teachers, Occupational Therapist and other external professionals. 

 ESSENTIAL CRITERIA   

  • Commitment to the Catholic and Edmund Rice ethos of the school.  

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the school’s Vision and Mission, Strategic Goals and the EREA Charter Touchstones.  

  • Relevant speech pathology degree with at least one year clinical experience;  

  • Current Speech Pathology Australia membership; 

  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) number;  

  • Clinical knowledge and experience that can be applied to above role description; 

  • Ability to work as part of a school-wide team of professionals and build positive relationships within the school communities;  

  • Ability to use initiative, including seeking relevant professional development opportunities and to make use of creative solutions to problems 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with others.  

  • A commitment to creating an environment where the safety, wellbeing and participation of all students is paramount. 

  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships, and work as part of a team.  

  • Capacity to multitask and work quickly and efficiently, with sound time management and organisational skills.  

  • Is honest, reliable and respectful  

  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and can act with tact and discretion in their role.   

  • Experience in working with small groups of students with intellectual disabilities 

  • Excellent level of IT skills 

  • Current Class C drivers’ licence 

  • Willingness to drive a 12-seater school bus.  

  • Current WWCC (Working with Children Check) Number and ongoing commitment to child protection practices.  

  • First Aid Certificate 

  DESIRABLE CRITERIA   

  • Experience in working with school-aged children with disabilities;  

  • Experience in working in schools or providing a whole-school service delivery;
