Who we are
Established in 1898, Christ Church Grammar School is Melbourne’s leading, inner city, independent school, providing outstanding education for boys and girls, aged 3 - 12 years old.
Christ Church Grammar School offers a complete primary school experience, from the Early Learning Centre to Year 6. Our entire focus is on the important early years of learning. We are an inclusive community and treasure the unique spirit of each and every child. Quality teaching and learning, high expectations and supportive relationships encourage our young children to develop in character and to aspire to be their very best.
Our small class sizes mean our teachers know every student and can focus on nurturing them. Our learning environments are made up of beautifully designed and engaging spaces, where teachers treat children with the care they need to grow and flourish. Students at Christ Church Grammar School are extended and encouraged to learn and find their inner passion, through the arts, sports, and sciences and our other co and extra-curricular opportunities.
We know every child and we challenge them to be their best.
We offer extra-curricular activities for different year levels and cater for many different interests. These programs are offered before school, at lunchtime and after school. Our extra-curricular programs complement and enrich classroom learning. These include Chess Club, Art Club, Coding Club, Karate Club, Street Dance, Soccer Club, and Robotics Club.

We are proud of our warm, welcoming school community. We nurture positive relationships with our families, to support each child in their development.
We actively encourage open communication between the school and home and encourage parents to contact the school to discuss any matters or concerns. Regular events such as Parent Information evenings, Grandparents' Day, Music Soirees, classroom events, and our Friends of Christ Church Grammar events are opportunities to share student learning.
Parents and teachers meet regularly to share student progress and set goals for future learning at parent/teacher interviews and program support group meetings.
The Principal, Deputy Principal, Head of Individual Differences, Head of Early Years and the Chaplain provide a framework for the collegial management of student and family matters.
Our classroom teachers are the first and most important point of contact for parents as they provide ongoing support for all the students in their care.
Our staff work together as a team to implement a positive approach to student behaviour that is both proactive and pre-emptive in the management of potential issues. Clear processes are in place to address any concerns that arise.
We support the emotional, academic, and social health of our students through programs that develop a sense of connection and belonging. These programs include Peer Mentoring and Buddy program, House events and activities, lunchtime clubs, and extra-curricular activities.
The Christ Church Grammar School Scholarships Program aims to recognise and support students in their pursuit of excellence.
Those students awarded scholarships will be of exemplary character and share the values of our school community. They will exhibit qualities such as integrity, leadership, initiative, care and compassion for others, and personal responsibility.
A scholarship entitles the recipient to a partial remission of tuition fees only and does not cover textbooks, uniforms or excursions.
If you require further information about any of our scholarships, please contact our Registrar registrar@ccgs.vic.edu.au or by calling 03 9866 3540.
We offer Academic Scholarships to students in Year 3, for entry into Year 4 and in Year 4, for entry into Year 5.
The Daryl Braithwaite Music Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to a child with exceptional musical talent. Daryl attended Christ Church Grammar and is delighted that this scholarship is named after him.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and our school. Christ Church Grammar is a unique school, founded in 1898 to provide learning opportunities to the Christ Church Boys Choir. We are today one of only a few independent stand-alone primary schools in the state and the only one in the inner south. We pride ourselves on making the transition to school a safe and happy experience for child and parent.
I hope by visiting our school, you will feel the warmth and care we have for our students. Our education philosophy is grounded in ensuring our children are equipped with the foundational skills of literacy and numeracy, best preparing children for the phases of their schooling and life beyond. Christ Church Grammar School is proudly small and welcoming. Our children and families share a common desire to help our children feel safe and nurtured.
Through our association with Christ Church South Yarra, our pastoral care programs are built on developing trust, empathy and respect. I encourage you to spend a few minutes exploring our website, or better still, arrange a personal tour of our great school.
We are excited to meet you in person.
