We invite you to experience the Freshwater Difference today! Book a Principal's Tour

At Freshwater Christian College, we understand that parents are looking for a place where their children are nurtured and encouraged to reach their full potential. Our dedicated Christian staff provide support to each student as they develop the knowledge, skills and experience to help make a difference in not only their lives but the lives of the community they live in.

Offering a Prep to Year 12 Christian Co-Educational College with an approved Queensland Government Kindergarten Program, we provide a safe and compassionate environment where your child will be taught using a Biblical framework while meeting all the requirements of educational authorities. Our bright and fun Kindergarten program gives children an enjoyable ‘beginning of school’ experience which leads to a positive transition into Prep. With both our Primary and High schools teaching our students a love of learning by searching for truth through knowledge and of academic excellence, we believe that your child will discover their God-given potential.

Located in Brinsmead, a suburb in the Queensland tropical city of Cairns, Freshwater Christian College (a ministry of Freshwater Church) has been supporting, encouraging and teaching children since 1983.

We hope to be able to welcome you and your child to our College family.

From our major Musicals (Primary and Secondary) to our weekly Chapels, Drama Outreach Trips, Visual Art subjects and Instrument programs, students have a world of opportunities to push themselves and enter into the world of creativity and design.

Sport

At Freshwater we see Sport as on of the key factors in a child’s development as they learn how to be part of team, develop focus and commitment and build confidence in a safe environment. Across our College, from Prep up to the Senior years, we focus on providing fun and engaging sporting activities and programs for our students to be apart of within and outside of school hours. Our Sporting Program (PGP) is run weekly as a core subject and a chance for our whole College to get active.

Additional Curriculum Areas

More than just a Kindergarten

When children enter our Kindergarten they are immediately drawn to a world of fun and play that awaits them. At this age, learning is done through play and we do lots of it from our sand pit where dump trucks and diggers are put to work, to building tall buildings out of recycled materials and watering and playing in our garden. You will find our painted masterpieces hanging around the room and when we have singing time, you can be sure you will hear us as we love to sing loud – very loud! This is what children love to do; play, laugh and learn.

One of the best things about Kindy is that we develop a personal relationship with each child getting to know them and being able to cater to their individual needs and get them moving on their learning journey. With experienced and caring teachers and staff, our goal is to create a love of learning in each child. We work closely with the Prep teachers to be able to cater our Kindy program towards your child’s entry into Prep. With so many things to learn about and play with, we look forward to your child’s adventure at Freshwater Kindy.

More than just a Primary School
Students who attend Freshwater Christian College’s Primary School are welcomed by teachers who are dedicated to seeing them develop their character and academic potential. We do this by providing a strong pastoral support network around your child whilst fostering a love of learning that will see them right through their schooling years.
In Primary, emphasis is placed on developing strong numeracy and literacy skills. Your child will enjoy learning by 'doing' through a hands on approach and being able to use their newly learnt skills in relevant situations.
Our Primary School provides your child three separate areas to move through: a Prep Centre, Junior Primary (Years 1 – 3) and Upper Primary (Years 4 – 6).

More Than Just Junior Secondary
Students in Years 7-9 are entering their adolescent years and this brings with it many challenges as the interests, needs and focus of this age is quite unique. Although they have energy to burn, creativity to unleash and an excitement at starting to make decisions about adult roles, it can also be a time of heightened emotions as they push towards a greater independence and their individual identities and value systems develop. Freshwater’s Junior Secondary department is structured to specifically meet these needs.
We are committed to walking with your child through this exciting time of their life.  We believe that as they move towards adulthood, structure and boundaries are important along with sound moral and spiritual guidance.

More Than Just Senior Secondary

The three years of Senior Secondary are a time of growing in character, learning and planning for future endeavours. Our young people are beginning to emerge as adults and are looking toward their graduation and the world that awaits them outside the school gates.
Senior students take an active role in Leadership within the College community and contribute towards setting the culture of Freshwater. We have a range of subjects and learning pathways which prepare our Seniors for their future.
Curriculum:
Year Ten students study the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and Humanities. Our students in Year Ten also have the choice of choosing different electives.
Year Ten is a foundational year to develop concepts and knowledge for your child’s entry into Year’s 11 and 12 where they are offered a full range or academic and/or vocational programs to set them up for their careers and life out of school.
All students also participate in Chapels, Camps, Christian Living Studies and PGP (sport and enrichment activities).
Co-curriculum:
We recognize that learning is about the whole person and therefore offer many extra sporting, creative and extra curricular opportunities for our senior students as they prepare for adulthood. Through our sporting teams, chapels, music programs, camps, academic competitions, community outreaches and leadership development programs we create opportunities for students to grow in character and develop.

Here at Freshwater Christian College, we believe in each unique individual within our community and exist to provide a safe and an empowered learning environment that nurtures caring relationships. We know God to be a loving Heavenly Father who made each of us unique and of equal value. It is because of this value that we see each member of our College community deserving of care and support no matter their individual story. Our Pastoral Care team are committed to ensuring that each student is given the support they need for their spiritual, social and emotional wellbeing. We provide an environment where every student is free to learn without threat or interruption and College staff provide all students with the necessary support to empower them to overcome inappropriate or harmful behaviours. Each area of our College is well taken care of by our Pastoral Care team. We have dedicated staff that are employed to provide year level pastoral care and assist our Head of Primary, Head of Secondary and Principal in providing pastoral care oversight for the College community. Our College Chaplain provides pastoral care and support to anyone within the college community from parents and families through to staff and students. Along with these Pastoral Care roles is the knowledge that each member of our College community, both student and staff alike share in the responsibility of taking care of one another. Our students are encouraged to be aware of the needs of others and are taught to show love and compassion for their fellow students. We believe that it is this culture of caring that sets our College community apart.

More Than A School, We're A Community
At Freshwater Christian College, we believe in the unique gifting of each individual within our community and exist to provide a safe and empowered learning environment that promotes caring relationships and authentic Christian Values.
