'TO THE GLORY OF GOD'
We warmly invite you to consider Heights College for the education of your son or daughter. At Heights, excellence is nurtured and the learning potential of each student is maximised in a culture of trust, co-operation and compassion.
The College is set on 8 hectares overlooking the city, with flourishing, landscaped grounds, well-equipped classrooms and specialist teaching areas, where we teach an integrated curriculum across three College sub-schools - Primary including Kindergarten, Middle School and Senior School. The strong Christian philosophy upon which the College is established is infused through all College activities.
When you've browsed the electronic information, we'd welcome the opportunity to talk with you and take you through the College, to experience a taste of 'the Heights Way' for yourself and your family.
Heights College provides inter-denominational Christian education from Pre-Preparatory to Year 12, to the communities of Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast. We are dedicated to providing a curriculum based on solid Christian foundations, which is taught by committed Christian teachers.
Thank you for considering the enrolment of your child at Heights College. We understand that the selection of a school is one of the most important and influential decisions that parents make for their children.
It has been wisely said that "it takes an entire village to educate a child." At Heights College we are committed to the cultivation of strong teacher-parent-student relationshoips and a genuine community of care throughout the educational journey. We also passionately believe that at the heart of education is an education of the heart. Therefore, we strive to provide an education which inspires Godly character and leadership, and we lead the students along a pathway of values-based experiences in their learning; a pathway we have termed 'The Heights Way'.
Each term has a unique focal theme - Character, Leadership, Influence and Breakthrough - and students learn to interact with these concepts in a practical, age-appropriate and sequential manner.
As character is developed, based on a foundation of Biblical values and principles, students move into positions of leadership which involve influencing others. This influence creates a lasting impression on others, and breakthrough is achieved when a life is changed, a goal achieved or a vision realised.
Our school is a very special place of learning where we seek to strive together for excellence, to the Glory of God. As Headmaster of this wonderful College, I look foward to partnering with you in the education of your children, assisting them to achieve their God-given potential and destiny.
Mr Darren Lawson
In 2017, for the second year in a row, Heights College has been named in the top 4% of schools in Australia for improving NAPLAN results.
ACARA (the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) has released information on schools demonstrating substantially above average gain in their NAPLAN results between Years 3 and 5 and Years 7 and 9.
Heights College was identified as one of the top 400 schools in substantially improving students' results. By measuring the gain from Years 3 to 5 and Years 7 to 9, with at least 70% of the students having taken NAPLAN at the same school two years earlier, ACARA are measuring how much difference the school has made to those students' achievement levels.
We aim to continue to improve learning outcomes for all our students, while recognising that snapshot metrics such as NAPLAN do not represent the whole of the child - their character, potential for growth, and God-given talents, skills and personalities. We aim to build character alongside academic learning, so that their foundations of values are strong and steadfast for their entire lives.
