Our Community embrace the following core values:

RESILIENCE
a positive approach, founded upon realistic expectations, strength of purpose and flexibility to help us deal with the challenges of life.

RESPECT
valuing ourselves, and others through a principled, disciplined and compassionate approach.

INTEGRITY
a community that is accountable, responsible and trustworthy.

SAFETY

Teaching and Learning

Hume Anglican Grammar is a progressive, coeducational Prep – Year 12 School. We are progressive in the development of buildings, facilities and grounds and offer innovative thinking and advancements in our approach to teaching and learning.

This is led by a group of dedicated and expert teachers who practice their craft with skill, and by building strong relationships with our students. Our student cohort readily display warmth, humour and respect for one another and their teachers, a testament to our teaching styles and programs. We deliver a holistic, high quality education driven by professional and dedicated staff.

We offer a broad, values-centred and Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) compliant curriculum. We are structured into two schools for the purposes of the delivery of the academic program, pastoral care and organisation of leadership.

Each of the schools (Primary and Secondary) caters for the unique needs of students and implements practices appropriate for that developmental stage. Most importantly, one of the great benefits of a Prep to Year 12 school is the smooth transition we can provide between the Primary and Secondary areas. Also, an additional class is added at Year 7 so there are a number of new students commencing in Secondary School. These junior secondary years are vibrant, challenging and appropriate to adolescents.

The School is in close partnership with the local Parish of Hume and St Peter’s Church, whom we share facilities and have an open enrolment policy and welcome students from all denominations and faith backgrounds, as well as children from families with no particular religious commitment.

Students are offered an environment where they can achieve academic excellence and grow. As an Anglican School we are bound by strong values and have high expectations of our staff and students.

Each student is cherished for their own individual strengths so they may be nurtured to prosper and flourish. At the heart of the purpose at Hume Anglican Grammar is a commitment to developing lifelong learners and every student is encouraged and supported to discover and fulfill their unique potential - whether it be academic, sporting or artistic.

We believe that an education at Hume should be accessible to all who wish to enjoy its benefits. As such, fees are consciously set to be as affordable as practicable to meet the needs of families.

Curriculum (P-6)

At Hume Anglican Grammar we have honed a deep and multi-faceted understanding of thinking and learning. And we are constantly re-visiting that understanding, to ensure it meets the changing needs of our individual students.

We offer a balanced approach to learning, a compassionate consideration of the emotional wellbeing of students and the opportunity for all young people to flourish within our innovative and caring environment. Teaching our students to become responsible citizens in a global society has become an integral element of our academic curriculum.

A Diverse Curriculum
Our broad-based curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Technology, Visual Arts, Performing Arts (Music, Dance, Drama), Health, Physical Education, LOTE (Italian), and RAVE (Religious and Values Education).

We seek to employ well-researched and effective teaching and learning programs and tools and to give our students access to a wide variety of learning activities. At Hume, we seek to integrate the use of technology in a natural and exciting way for our students. Students use a range of technologies such as laptop computers, iPads and Interactive Whiteboards as part of their learning and our staff are constantly training in the latest teaching methods and techniques.

Learning Strategies
We Strive to Create Learning Environments That:
• Build and reinforce students' sense of identity and cultural awareness
• Foster students' recognition and development of universal human values
• Stimulate curiosity, ingenuity and inquiry in order to foster a spirit of discovery and enjoyment of learning
• Equip students with the basic skills to learn and acquire knowledge, individually or collaboratively, and to apply these skills and knowledge accordingly across a broad range of areas
• Provide awareness of international perspectives while responding to Australian contexts and interests
• Ensure flexibility and responsiveness of teaching and learning approaches to the different needs of our diverse student population
• Assist learners to develop the autonomy needed for full and efficient participation in their own learning
• Provide appropriate forms of assessment to facilitate effective learning and to ensure that learners work to their potential and achieve their personal best

Curriculum (7-12)
Hume Anglican Grammar is committed to providing a 21st century education that, while focused on academic pursuit, is underpinned by nurturing the wellbeing of each student, assisting them to achieve to the best of their ability.

In the Secondary School, students are encouraged to aim high in all they do and be proud of their achievements. The overarching focus is on teaching students to have enquiring minds and take responsibility for their learning in order to help them achieve long-term success.

At Hume Anglican Grammar, we recognise that we are living in a fast-paced, globally connected world and we aim to give our students the skills they need to work effectively in their senior years of schooling, strengthening the foundation for future success. Our Secondary curriculum incorporates a comprehensive range of subjects designed to help students identify and successfully pursue their career goals. It is continually reviewed to allow for new initiatives in response to our student interests and growing cohort.

Years 7 and 8
In Years 7 and 8 the curriculum is largely based on the key learning areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Language other than English (Italian), Health and Physical Education and Religious and Values Education. Students also experience some lessons in the Visual and Performing Arts, Information Technology, and Design and Technology Studies. Both Years 7 and 8 cohorts build relationships as they participate in camps each year, which develop skills in teamwork, collaboration, friendship-building, organisation and goal-setting.

Years 9 and 10
In Years 9 and 10 the core curriculum is narrowed and students begin to make elective choices, providing them with a foundation of experience, knowledge, understanding and skills in an even broader range of subjects including Forensic Science, Media, Outdoor Education and many more. This enables students to make informed choices about courses in Years 11 and 12. Year 9 students participate in a week-long City Experience which allows them to undertake a range of curriculum-based activities while learning about, and independently navigating through, the city of Melbourne. Year 10 students further develop and consolidate their leadership skills, as they participate in the Peer Support Program and a three-day Leadership Camp. Our timetable is also designed to allow students who excel in their studies and meet strict criteria to accelerate into a VCE subject.

Years 11 and 12
For Years 11 and 12 students, the curriculum offers a broad range of more than 20 VCE subjects. We are responsive to student interests and will continue to grow our VCE offerings as numbers in the Senior Secondary school continue to increase.

DONNYBROOK CAMPUS TO OPEN IN 2019

As we approach maximum enrolment at Mt Ridley, it is our pleasure to announce a new campus to be located within the new Olivine Masterplanned Community by national developer Mirvac. The new campus will allow the School to grow beyond its current limit by replicating the ‘Hume educational experience’ at another location close by.

To be developed over 10 to 15 years, Olivine will be home to approximately 7,000 people across 2,250 homes. It will feature a new local town centre as well as education, health, sports and community infrastructure, with a destinational adventure park to draw people from across the region.

Hume Anglican Grammar will open it's doors in time for the 2019 school year offering innovative learning models for students from Prep to Year 12. Years of planning with Mirvac has resulted in what will be an exciting campus and an integral part of the community at Olivine, where more members of the Hume and Whittlesea areas can access an outstanding educational experience.
Hume Anglican Grammar at Olivine will provide the opportunity for 1,200 students on the expansive eight-hectare site.

“One of the hardest matters I must attend to as Principal is to inform parents they have been unsuccessful in finding a place for their child. It gives me immense relief that now this conversation can turn to one of hope with the new campus planned to open in 2019. Young families are looking for quality education for their children and Hume Anglican Grammar at Olivine will provide this opportunity for 1200 students on the expansive eight-hectare site.
This campus will also provide a focal point where Olivine’s residents can come together with other families, building a strong sense of belonging and community.”
-Principal Bill Sweeney.
