Welcome to Mount Alvernia College – an independent Catholic secondary girls’ college (Years 7-12) located in Kedron, Brisbane.

Founded in 1956, the College is a warm engaging community where students are encouraged to follow their pursuits in academic, sporting, outreach, and cultural activities, all whilst fostering their spiritual faith.

At Mount Alvernia College we are passionate about inspiring your daughter to fulfil her potential. She will discover her faith, understand her social conscience, engage in our community and, most of all, flourish in her growth and development.

Operated by Mercy Partners and governed by an Incorporated Board (Mount Alvernia College Limited), Mount Alvernia College provides a contemporary quality education for young women at a modern campus with purpose-built facilities.

Because of its suburban location, the College is close to transport and main roads.  It is also nearby to Padua College (for boys) and St Anthony’s School (primary).  Together the three schools are known as the Franciscans on the Hill.

As a Franciscan College, Mount Alvernia endeavours to follow, in word and action, the example of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi, in living the values of love, simplicity and joy. Values that are paramount to us are: respect for the individual and having a real relationship with Christ each day. The school is also guided by a Learning and Teaching Framework that provides a safe learning environment with six core principles at its helm: share practice, realise potential, forge connections, enable excellence, build resilience and engage learners.

Students come to Mount Alvernia from Catholic, state public, and other schools, mostly from the northern suburbs of Brisbane.  While the College has a preference for Catholics in its enrolment policy, we are non-discriminatory when educational need is the issue.

Visitors are welcome at the College by appointment.

Franciscan values of love, compassion, simplicity, peace, joy, trust in God, respect and service inform all we do at the College.
Our vision is to develop and support young women who live their faith in today’s world, commit to life-long personal and intellectual growth, care for the earth and all of humankind, work towards justice for all, and build community wherever life takes them.
Mount Alvernia College is a Catholic educational community committed to promoting the total development of students in the light of the gospel and the tradition of Saint Francis and Saint Clare.

Welcome to Mount Alvernia College, a Franciscan girls’ college imbued with the charism of our foundress, Elizabeth Hayes, and the ongoing legacy of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception.  Established in 1956, Mount Alvernia is situated in the beautiful suburb of Kedron, on Jagera and Turrbal country.  Our college is a place of welcome and inclusion and one that seeks to build capacity and potential for each and every one of our students.

At Mount Alvernia College the Gospel values of Love, Compassion, Simplicity, Peace, Trust, Joy, Respect, and Service are animated in all that we do.  In a world of uncertainty, we are committed to helping our students develop right relations with self, each other, and with their earth and God.

Our accomplished academic and support staff are dedicated to ensuring that your daughter may discover her gifts and talents by creating the environment she needs to build confidence and curiosity.  We believe in cultivating a learning environment which values and encourages active listening and inquiry and one that empowers individual aspiration.  We encourage our students to strive for excellence in all aspects of academic, cultural, and sporting endeavours and, importantly, to do their personal best always.  Following in the footsteps of our foundress, Elizabeth Hayes, we place value in acts of service and community.  An array of opportunities is available for our students to become actively involved in works of social justice and outreach.  We wish for our students to be courageous voices in the face of injustice and for them to act with kindness and tolerance always.  As we edge towards the middle of the 21st century, there is a need to dial up for our young people their skills of communication, critical and creative thinking, and ethical leadership.  At Mount Alvernia we are future-focussed and strive to instil these important soft skills throughout each of our programs.

In true Franciscan hospitality, I warmly invite you to visit us on one of our upcoming Open Days; to meet our wonderful students, hear from key staff members, and enjoy our stunning gardens – La Foresta.  In the meantime, please explore our website to learn more about our stunning college.
