Every school wants to believe that it offers something special, something just a little bit different from other schools. At Peninsula, we too believe that we have a certain spirit, more than just camaraderie, that exists within the School. It's a shared set of values and a sense of all working together that is hard to define in words. We are not alone in this belief. Visitors to our School regularly comment on the congenial atmosphere on campus. This spirit encompasses all year levels and is the result of careful attention to a number of factors.

Peninsula follows sound Christian values. Whether or not families have religious affiliations, the results, as shown by the behaviour of our students, attest to the value of inculcating these ethics in the routines of school life. Through our pastoral care and Tutor systems, our teachers enjoy a close relationship with their students. This knowledge gives them a solid appreciation of what each student needs educationally and socially.

A Kindergarten to Year 12 school, our curriculum provides a depth of learning necessary for students in the 21st century. While we are proud to be able to offer a multitude of subjects, it is the work done to enhance the learning and growth of every child within these subjects that matters most to us.

We are particularly proud of our bespoke ALATUS curriculum, evolutionary in nature and driven by student interest, it is a powerful example of the transformation of education and the necessity of ensuring students learn how to think and develop the confidence and the skills to question. Our VCE program offers 34 subjects to students and enables them to choose a pathway that best suits them. With exceptional and highly experienced leaders in the VCE, the program ensures that every child knows success throughout their final years at the School.
Privileged to be located in one of the most sought-after corners of the country, extending across Mount Eliza, with stunning views of Port Phillip Bay, the School is renowned for its evolving landscape and the considerations it makes when building new learning environments.

Its most recent building, ALATUS, is designed to combine technology and critical thinking in a purpose-built environment that challenges students to rethink their learning and discover fact from fiction. Our state-of-the-art Science Centre provides a pre-tertiary context of exploration where theoretical studies and laboratory experiences work hand in hand to deepen student’s inquisitive nature and innate understanding of the scientific world.

With three gymnasiums, two outdoor heated swimming pools, soccer ovals, grass tennis courts and three more ovals, the School sets the benchmark for natural beauty and exceptional learning environments.

Building self-esteem and resilience is important to the development of all children. The breadth of our co-curricular programs and House activities is such that all students are able to find some activity in which they can find enjoyment and success. Sport, music and drama opportunities abound at Peninsula. Our Personal Development program flourishes in the Middle School. A major draw card is the popular Cadet Unit. We also provide a range of interest-based activities, life skill programs, sporting and hobby pursuits. Community service is also a feature of the program.

With two Boarding Houses located in distinct areas of the campus, the School works to provide our boarders with an unsurpassed learning experience that enables them to not only pursue excellence but to learn more about themselves. We have a long and proud association with schools across China, Vietnam and Malaysia and are excited by the possibilities of reimagining our boarding program this year.

Peninsula Grammar is renowned for its Pastoral Care program which is founded on the principles of Positive Psychology. We believe an effective approach to pastoral care involves:

  • Ensuring that students have a sense of safety, security and wellbeing.
  • Developing in students an understanding of their physical, emotional and personal development.
  • Being consistent in expectations placed on students.
  • Engendering respect and tolerance for difference.
  • Cultivating student leadership opportunities.
  • Engaging students in appropriate career and vocational experiences.
  • Encouraging a Christian consciousness and moral values.
  • Nurturing resilience in students.
  • Building self worth, confidence and responsibility.
  • Developing positive social relationships and interpersonal skills.
The core values which guide our School are:

Stewardship
As custodians of the School we are entrusted with the health and wellbeing of our community and our institute. Sound principles of leadership and governance underpin all that we do in striving to ensure the prosperity and longevity of our school for the benefit of current and future generations. In enacting our stewardship, we choose service to our community over self interest.

Integrity
Our School motto Hold Fast That Which Is Good underpins the moral and ethical principles by which we operate. We prize consistency of values and actions and are committed to always acting in a socially responsible and virtuous manner for the greater good of our community.

Coeducational learning
We are proudly coeducational. We offer a diverse, vibrant and challenging learning environment which promotes equality and fairness of opportunity. We believe that an integrated, coeducational approach best serves Australian society by promoting mutually respectful interactions between boys and girls in a safe, secure and rewarding environment.

Personal excellence
Our students are inspired and supported to develop their natural gifts and to become lifelong learners. We encourage students to understand that potential is best achieved through self reflection and the commitment to hard work. The School looks for opportunities to acknowledge individual improvement and personal best as well as celebrating those who achieve at the highest level.

Community spirit
We are a community in which a sense of affiliation and connectedness flourishes. We boast an enviable culture that is underpinned by acceptance, friendship and interdependence. An ethic of service abounds in our School family which helps account for the commonplace, selfless, individual and community actions that go to enriching the lives of others.

Christian faith
The School is founded on the Anglican tradition through which we are guided by God’s love and grace. Students are encouraged to explore the spiritual dimensions of their lives and to embrace Christian principles. We are a diverse and inclusive community which welcomes international students and respects the beliefs of all faiths.
Our vision is to be Australia’s premier coeducational day and boarding school; known globally for our quality teaching, inspired standards and the pursuit of excellence for each student.

The key to delivering the highest quality education, is the highest quality teachers. At Peninsula Grammar our teachers are exceptional in the way they teach and engage each child in every classroom nurturing and inspiring students to reach for personal excellence.

Our community spirit and steadfast commitment to positive education fosters self belief and creativity in each child.
In a coeducational environment that reflects the way in which the world operates, our school community is shaped by Christian faith and produces active and informed global citizens.

Kindergarten

We recognise that children learn in different ways and consequently the curriculum incorporates activities that are based on Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences (1983) which are visual, logical-mathematical, spatial, kinesthetic, musical, interpersonal and intrapersonal, thus ensuring that every child has a means by which they learn about themselves and the world around them. We offer both a 3-year old and 4-year old Kinder program.

Discovering Me (Prep to Year 4)

Our Discovering Me program has a strong 21st century curriculum focused on the growth of every individual to ensure each child experiences success on their learning journey. The Junior School Curriculum is developed to promote curiosity, collaboration, creativity and a love of learning. Through engaging inquiry based learning experiences our children learn, grow and flourish.

Becoming Me (Year 5 to Year 8)

Embedded within a unique curriculum, this program is structured to develop global citizens, enhancing our students understanding of self and society intertwined through collaborative projects, real-life experiences and shared learning journeys. We value Literacy, Numeracy and Sciences in equal measure, we innovate and we create, we hold on to the components of learning that we know work and we pride ourselves on continually evolving.

Challenging Me (Year 9)

In this critical year level where students make the transition from the Middle School to the Senior School program, learning is relevant, relationships are supportive and our students develop life-long learning skills and a curiosity for self-discovery. The program is centred around our Challenge Blocks which see our students step outside both the traditional classroom and their personal comfort zone and turn ‘I can’t’ into ‘I can’. A coherent program incorporates student experience with classroom practice, making student learning relevant and engaging.

Inspiring Me (Year 10 to Year 12)

This program recognises the ever-changing world in which we live and the need for young people to develop the ability to thrive in this environment after they complete their secondary schooling journey. Centred on problem finding and problem solving skills inspiring our students to think actively, logically, socially and creatively. With a focus on lifelong learning and effective communication skills, Inspiring Me prepares our students for the pathways and opportunities beyond our school gates.

Music

Music plays a central role in the educational and cultural life of Peninsula Grammar. Students enjoy a broad range of musical experiences from the Junior School Music Program to VCE in formal settings, to the flourishing instrumental and vocal programs and the less formal House music and performances.

Performing Arts

Peninsula Grammar’s Performing Arts Program offers our students incredible experiences both on stage, backstage and beyond. Each year our students take centre stage in multiple performances including our Junior School Mini Musical Extravaganza, Middle School and Senior School Productions. The whole community looks forward to seeing our actors, singers and dancers performing on stage supported by our talented musicians.

Sport

With an enviable reputation in sport, and as a proud member of the AGSV (Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria), our Middle and Senior School students compete in winter and summer sports competition, where they expand their learning far beyond the classroom setting.

Cadets

The Cadet program provides ongoing opportunities for personal growth in a challenging but nurturing multi-age environment. Students from Years 9-12 work co-operatively to mentor and train junior cadets. The program develops leadership, fosters teamwork and encourages an ethic of service and self-discipline, as well as building friendships across the School.

Peninsula Grammar supports a variety of private bus routes to transport students to and from our school through the Ventura Bus Company.
