Supporting Students to become real world ready…

St John Fisher College, Bracken Ridge is a welcoming Catholic secondary girls’ college founded in 1981 on Mercy traditions.

The College was inspired by St John Fisher, a Chancellor of Cambridge University who was known for his academic passion and social justice work.

College life offers a vibrant and compassionate community that promotes our values of faith respect, care, integrity, kindness service, excellence, compassion and inclusiveness.

Our college is the hidden gem of schools in Brisbane’s northern suburbs and while our fee is affordable, our focus is truly on delivering a curriculum designed to prepare girls for a changing world.

St John Fisher’s strong academic outcomes, combined with an appreciation of vocational experiences, allows students to succeed and thrive in their life beyond the school gates.

This tell us our students have been placed on a learning pathway suitable to both who they are currently, and who they want to become in life beyond school, whether their interests are academically or vocationally geared.

For the past five years, 100 percent of students from St John Fisher College have received a Queensland Certificate of Education.

Our students consistently achieve well above the state average in NAPLAN and Year 12 results.

Senior subjects through two modes of learning, onsite (at our Bracken Ridge Campus) and online (through Fisher One our digital learning environment)

Along with recently upgraded facilities, including a Design and Hospitality hub, our college is set amongst almost 16 hectares of lush greenspace, which offers an ideal learning environment, free of clutter, for our student's minds to flourish.

Each student is supported by different participants of our community, including their peers as part of the pastoral care program.

The vertical pastoral care classes consist of students from all year levels, with the PC teachers staying with that group for their time at college.

These groups replicate family connections where senior students support those below, practicing love and care for others.

Many of our teachers have been honoured with Excellence in Teaching Awards as well as Student Choice Awards. Our ‘out of the box’ approach to curriculum caters to students’ interests and real-world scenarios.

Underpinning our forward-thinking curriculum, you will find a supportive community of parents, teachers and support staff who are passionate about preparing students to become courageous global citizens of the future.

Live your best life at St John Fisher College…

At St John Fisher College we are proud of our thriving cultural life.

Queensland Curriculum and Assessment (QCAA) courses are conducted in Drama, Visual Art, Visual Arts in Practice and Music. Students in Year 7 to 12 can participate in the College Instrumental Music program and tuition is offered in Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, Strings, Piano and Guitar.

Students can also be a member of our Concert Band, String Ensemble, and our Drum Corps, performing at a variety of events and competitions, including Anzac Day, the EKKA and the QLD Catholic Schools Music Festival.

Students are encouraged to join the School Choir, which significantly contributes to the spiritual life of the College at Masses, Liturgies and Celebrations. For students participating in the Language Immersion Program, there is also the opportunity to perform in our French Choir.

We celebrate our diversity, and this is highlighted by our African, Umbarra, Polynesian and Punjabi dance groups, who entertain at various school and community events, with student-led choreography and costume design.

Keeping active is an important part of education and we endeavor to give every student an opportunity to be a team member in their chosen sport. Our grounds include an athletics oval, cricket pitch and AFL field, providing the perfect setting for students to play sport.

The spirit of St John Fisher College asks students to have the courage to seek justice, the gift of peace and the grace to forgive.

Students and staff are supported to fundraise and advocate for issues that are important to them and the wider community.

This approach means each student’s spiritual, social, emotional and physical growth are promoted, as well as their academic learning.

St John Fisher College is a Catholic secondary girls’ College catering for Years 7 to 12 and is administered by Brisbane Catholic Education. It is located in Bracken Ridge, and attracts students from a wide area across the northern suburbs of Brisbane and surrounds. THE JOHN FISHER WAY
At St John Fisher College, a tradition exists of expressing our vision using the language of “the John Fisher Way”. This is a way of acting, speaking and behaving that encompasses our values. In practice, the John Fisher Way may be demonstrated by showing manners, taking pride in your appearance, having respect for self, others and their property, being responsible for one’s actions, having positive relationships with others, being inclusive and tolerant of others, performing acts of kindness, contributing to the community, doing your very best and treating others the way you wish to be treated. This language is interwoven through many daily interactions and throughout all aspects of College life.
The St John Fisher College Community
is inspired by God’s Spirit and
the Catholic faith tradition
to live, to love and to learn
with respect for truth,
the courage to seek justice,
the gift of peace
and the grace to forgive
as we respond with equal dynamism
to society’s challenges today and tomorrow.

Welcome to St John Fisher College, a vibrant and compassionate community that promotes the values of respect, care, integrity, service, excellence and inclusiveness.

We are a Catholic secondary girls' College with a curriculum designed to prepare girls for a changing world. Our strong academic outcomes, with an appreciation for vocational experiences, combine to give our students the best opportunity to success in life beyond the school gates.

St John Fisher is a College of high expectations. Our goal is for all girls to realise their potential in a supportive and diverse learning environment, valuing the dignity and integrity of each individual.

We have a strong pastoral care focus, a wide variety of co-curricular activities and we expect all students to become involved in College life. We encourage girls to step out of their comfort zones, be problem solvers and future focussed. We offer opportunities and experiences that will allow all girls to explore their own gifts and talents. Feeling connected, protected and respected are key factors in building resilience and this is a key part of the St John Fisher College culture.

Our beautiful leafy grounds and small student population mean that each student is known individually. We are proud of our extensive and evolving curriculum and of our staff who consistently display a commitment to excellence.

St John Fisher has a Sisters of Mercy foundation and we are proud to nurture the girls in this way of care for others, social justice and outreach.

Please explore our website, contact us for a tour and join us for special occasions such as Open Day and our annual Arts & Culture night, Illuminaré. You will find a vibrant and welcoming community.

Rahema MacDonald resizeSt John Fisher College Captain, Rahema MacDonald performed with distinction at the Zone final of Young Lion Youth of the Year competition this week. She placed third to Craigslea State High (2nd) and Brisbane Grammar (1st).

Youth of the Year is designed to encourage student interest in leadership and the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in the community. A high level of academic, leadership, sporting, public speaking and citizenship achievement is sought in its potential winners.

Frank Rose of Bramble Bay Lions Club spoke on behalf of his club when he said; “We are very appreciative of the work put in by Rahema and the support from her family as well as St John Fisher College and would like to thank all concerned."

“The top 3 contestants all scored in the 80s out of 100 so the competition was quite fierce but friendly and I am sure the members of all the Clubs involved could not help but be impressed with the calibre of the contestants, I know I was," commented Frank.

Rahema said she felt elated and proud to have placed third amongst very tough competition.

“It was an unforgettable experience and I have learnt a lot from the process," Rahema said.

“It not only allowed me to enhance my personal leadership skills and approaches to challenging situations, but it also gave me the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing, youth leaders in our Greater Brisbane region."

“It left me feeling more confident in myself and determined to create a lasting impact on our community for the better."

“I'm incredibly grateful to the Lions Foundation and my schools' leadership team for providing me with such an amazing opportunity and experience."

St John Fisher College Principal, Ms Cathy Galvin said Rahema is an outstanding leader, exemplifying what it is to be a St John Fisher girl.

“We are very proud of the effort Rahema put into the Young Lion of the Year competition and her achievements reflect this," said Ms Galvin.
