Downlands College is a Prep to Year 12, independent, Catholic, coeducational, day and boarding school with a long tradition of heart-centred and values-based education.

Situated in the regional city of Toowoomba at the centre of a prosperous rural community, Downlands provides a full range of facilities often found only in large cities. The College is nestled in 38 hectares of landscaped grounds, with historic buildings and modern facilities, including a performing arts centre; dance, drama and film studios; indoor sports centre; flourishing Rural Centre; seven ovals; and a heated 50m outdoor pool.

Downlands is a place where one’s heart can find a home - where students can grow and flourish as they develop a sense of truth, goodness and beauty and so be ready to go out and to make a difference in the world.

Every day is Open Day at Downlands College!  If you would like to come and have a look at the facilities and opportunities we offer, please call us on 07 4690 9500 to arrange a convenient time...we look forward to seeing you at Downlands.

An independent Catholic coeducational day & boarding school (Prep-Year 12 in 2023), in Toowoomba conducted by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, Downlands was opened in 1931 as a boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of 68.  Today it accommodates over 700 day and 200 residential students from all parts of Queensland, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and beyond.

Downlands motto is Fortes in Fide - Strong in Faith. Our faith is based on a belief in and a commitment to a loving God. We value truth, learning and respect for the individual as essential features of the education process.

Situated in a superb location in the regional city of Toowoomba at the centre of a prosperous rural community, Downlands provides students with access to a full range of facilities often found only in large cities, yet the College is in a peaceful setting of beautiful avenues, parks and gardens.

Boarding students at Downlands travel vast distances to attend our College - from Darwin in the Northern Territory through to Armidale in the south and the many towns and cities in between, from Brisbane to Kowanyama, Thargomindah and Longreach. Our many day students either live in our lovely city or travel in from Allora to the South, Crows Nest and beyond in the North, Rosewood in the East and West to near Dalby. Some of these students use casual boarding from time to time to reduce the amount of travel each day and to take advantage of supervised study at night.

Downlands College is Queensland's only Independent, Catholic Co-educational Boarding School with a capacity of 290 male and female boarding school students.

Traditionally the bulk of our students come from the isolated rural communities of Western Queensland and Northern New South Wales, with many others from South East Queensland, the Northern Territory and Overseas.

The Girls' Residential facilities are made up of two modern houses of 62 beds each. All rooms have a maximum of four girls, each with their own desk and wardrobe. There are three Boys' boarding houses similarly configured.

The family is our model for residential care. All of our boarding houses are staffed by full-time committed professional House Parents and House Assistants.

The two girls' dormitories each have students from years 8 to 12. One boys' dormitory specialises in the care of our Year 8 and 9 boys while the other two cater for the needs of our Year 10 to 12 boys.

Casual Boarding
If you and your family are experiencing difficulty juggling all your commitments you may find casual boarding beneficial from time to time. At Downlands College we offer casual overnight boarding which includes overnight stay, meals, organised study routines, secure computer network access and opportunity to participate in various sporting and cultural pursuits.

WELOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Downlands College extends a warm welcome to you and your family.

I am very proud and privileged to be the Principal of this exceptional school that has developed leaders, entrepreneurs and individuals who have made a difference in the world. Founded by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) in 1931, Downlands College has a rich history, and it continues to be characterised by its strong Catholic ethos and MSC spirit which underpins all we do.

At Downlands we acknowledge and embrace the diverse heritage, cultures and backgrounds of our students, staff and broader school community. The development of strong, life-giving relationships forms the cornerstone of a Downlands education, and our unique MSC heritage ensures that the Downlands journey is intertwined with an ‘education of the heart’.
A focus on relationships allows our core values of love, courage, compassion, understanding and humility to be woven through all our interactions.

Widely recognised as a leading coeducational day and boarding school, Downlands College is known as the ‘school of choice’ and a school ‘where your heart finds a home’. At Downlands, there is a niche for every student. We journey with each student academically and pastorally to provide the best possible school and post-school pathway. Opportunities include a very broad curriculum offering (academic and Vocational Education and Training), sport, performing arts, agriculture, leadership, social justice projects and community service.

Our goal is to have happy students who perform to their personal best in all situations and who take responsibility for their learning and relationships. This includes student presentation, excellence in academic pursuits, co-curricular involvement, treating peers and community members with respect and kindness, and having a sense of humour.
We will continue to ensure the wider community recognises that a Downlands educational journey is one that will develop selfless leaders who are advocates for values-based communities. Our distinctive culture is informed and guided by our beliefs and commitment to community, personal growth, relationships, spirituality and individual learning journeys.

The historical character of our buildings, incorporated with modern facilities, our stunning gardens, expansive grounds and the smiling, friendly students and staff can provide you with an insight into a Downlands education. I invite you to come and experience the Downlands difference.
