In Junior School, we aim to provide a range of engaging and relevant learning opportunities and experiences, as appropriate for the student’s development. In the Early Years (Prep to Year 2), the focus is on exposing children to experiences and immersing them in an environment that stimulates curiosity and wonder about their world, their God and the people and practices around them. In Upper Junior (Year 3 to Year 6), the focus changes to developing control of skills and strategies to enable them to learn effectively and develop wholesome and God-honouring relationships, working towards independence.

In Middle and Senior School, students are engaged in an innovative one-to-one technology program which equips them with a personal digital device. They are using Apple iPads to research, collaborate and present their findings in class. They are using the technology to access the College’s learning management system where resources for all subjects can be shared and discussed. Teachers are creating tasks for students within the learning environment which, without iPads, were previously inconceivable.

We are proud of the consistently high academic achievements of our students. In 2013, our students performed above the state average in every category tested by NAPLAN. A third of students achieved an OP between 1 and 6.

Faith
Discipleship happens in the classroom as well, where students explore the tenets of the Christian faith. But it doesn’t stop with facts and verses. Northside Christian College challenges its students to put action to their words and beliefs. They are encouraged to live lives that bring glory to God, care for His creation, and spread His love to the people around us.

Design Thinking

Design Thinking is a Northside Christian College distinctive in Middle School. Implemented across the three years of Middle School, students engage in a cross-curricular program that is an intentional and creative approach to embedding thinking skills into our program. Year 7 students dive into Think Tank, where they experience the importance of trial and error on the road to eventual success. Year 8 students complete Design Dilemma, working together as they solve a challenge. Year 9 students have the option to complete an elective called Challenge-based Learning, a semester-long, student-initiated project that fosters autonomy and ownership.

The College currently provides five separate routes in the morning and six routes in the afternoon across the greater northern, eastern and western areas of North Brisbane.
