We ensure our teaching is relevant to life after school; that it’s helpful for what students are going to encounter in the future, and that they know how to use and apply what they have learnt.
We teach all content through a Christian lens, in a way that is practical and beneficial to growing students into people with strong values and integrity. When we teach students in Year 11 and 12 how to apply for a job, we teach them to be honest about their abilities. When we look at a text in English class, we discuss what values that can be seen and how they apply to what we believe as Christians. In history, when looking at the unrest in the Middle East for example, we discuss why there is such turmoil; asking why can’t three major religions live in peace? What are the differences and what are the intolerances? Similarly, Outdoor Education is not just high ropes, but it’s an opportunity to learn how we care for our environment and consider how can we be good stewards of the Earth.

Southern Hills Christian College is proud to offer The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to our students.
The Award is an internationally recognised program that acknowledges the diverse activities and skills which participants are committed to.
During their time achieving the Award, a student will develop new skills and interests; meet new friends while strengthening current friendships and be rewarded for their efforts.
Although the Award means different things to different people, one big advantage is that it is immediately recognisable and highly regarded by companies, educational institutions and many other organizations around the world. The ‘Duke of Ed’ award demonstrates a well-rounded and committed individual who is diligent, confident and reliable; all traits that can be difficult to project onto a CV. Most of all, the Award is designed to be fun and fulfilling and Southern Hills Christian College is keen to ensure this is the case.
The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh, which has a required age of 14, will take a minimum of six months to complete and a student will be expected to do either one hour a week, or two hours a fortnight of Fitness, Skill Development and Volunteering. It also involves a two-day/one-night practice journey and two-day/one-night qualifying journey. It is likely that most Southern Hills students are already doing these things in Year 9 as part of their commitments at school or as part of our Emergency Services Cadets. The Award then proceeds to Silver and Gold levels which the College will support students to achieve.

Southern Hills Christian College offers a Private Bus Service in conjunction with West Coast Bus Charters.
The Private Bus Service is available to Southern Hills Christian College students only, providing a greater level of safety for daily student travel and peace of mind for our families.
