St Michael's offers a wide range of co-curricular activities designed to extend learning beyond the classroom, from Early Learning through to Year 12. These programs give students the chance to explore interests, build skills and connect with peers outside their regular academic timetable.

Outdoor Education is a consistent thread throughout a student's time at the School, progressing from age-appropriate camps in the Junior years to more demanding expeditions in the Senior School, including Tasmania-based programs and multi-day treks. Snowsports is offered as a dedicated program, alongside Aquatics through the School's own pathway.

Students can also pursue the Duke of Edinburgh Award, which builds independence, resilience and community engagement over an extended period. A broad range of clubs caters to interests spanning academic, creative and social pursuits, giving students room to follow their own passions.

Notably, St Michael's does not run Saturday sport, a deliberate point of difference that protects family time on weekends while students still compete and train during the week.

Community service is embedded from Kindergarten to Year 12, reflecting the School's commitment to Contributing Citizenship as a lived value rather than an occasional activity.

At St Michael's, pastoral care is treated as central to a student's progress, not separate from academic achievement. The School's approach is built around genuinely knowing each child, supported by a single-campus model where staff and students build relationships that span years rather than single terms.

A House system operates across both Junior and Senior School, giving students a smaller community within the broader School and a consistent point of connection as they move through year levels. This structure supports mentoring, healthy competition and a sense of belonging from a student's earliest years through to Year 12.

Staff monitor wellbeing alongside academic progress, adjusting support as students move through different stages of development. This is grounded in the School's values of Dignity, Respect, Care and Compassion, which shape how staff manage everything from everyday interactions to more serious concerns.

The School's approach to child safety and student wellbeing is embedded in policy and practice, with clear processes for staff and families when issues arise. Community and connection are treated as protective factors in their own right, supported through House activities, mentoring structures and a strong Junior-Senior student buddy program.

Our strong track record as leaders in co-education is reflected in consistently high VCE outcomes, with gender balance evident among our top performers and excellent post-school pathways.

In the most recent cohort, 29% of students achieved an ATAR above 90 and 55% achieved an ATAR above 80, with a median ATAR of 83.35 and a median study score of 32.

High achievement was evident across a broad range of subjects, particularly within the Creative and Performing Arts, where a significant proportion of students achieved study scores of 40 and above.

Our results reflect the strength of our inclusive co-educational model, with balanced representation among high achievers and a continued focus on supporting every student to realise their potential. Students are well prepared for life beyond school, consistently securing strong tertiary pathways, including 100% of students receiving first-preference university offers in 2024.

International Students

St Michael's warmly welcomes applications from international students from Preparatory to Year 11. As a day school, St Michael's does not offer homestay arrangements — students must reside with a parent or a relative approved by the Department of Home Affairs for the duration of their enrolment. Short-term study options are not available.

Students who do not have English as a first language are required to submit either an iDAT or AEAS assessment. AEAS assessments are completed at recognised testing centres across Australia and overseas, with results typically available within two weeks. iDAT assessments can be completed from home under controlled conditions, with results returned within two days.

Fees for international students comprise a base tuition fee and a levy, both of which vary by year level, with uniforms and books charged separately.

St Michael's works with a small number of overseas education consultants, including partners in Hong Kong and mainland China, to support families navigating enrolment from abroad.
