The St Scholastica’s Story: Where Every Girl’s Journey Matters
Just minutes from Sydney’s CBD, St Scholastica’s College, affectionately known as Schols, every girl is empowered to thrive.
At Schols, education is about more than results. It’s about shaping confident, compassionate young women who are ready to make their mark on the world. Every day, our students are inspired to strive for excellence, shine with purpose and succeed on their own terms.
More than a school, Schols is a happy, connected community where every girl is known, valued and supported. Under the leadership of Principal Ms Laetitia Richmond, the College blends academic excellence with genuine care, creating an environment where students feel a strong sense of belonging and are encouraged to become their best selves.
Grounded in the Benedictine and Good Samaritan traditions, our values of Hospitality, Compassion, Justice, Stewardship, Harmony and Wisdom, shape not only what our students achieve, but who they become. Here, learning is meaningful, relationships matter and every voice is heard.
Academically, Schols is dynamic and forward-thinking. A broad, future-focused curriculum, enriched STEM opportunities and strong university partnerships open doors to endless possibilities. Our teachers are passionate and encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence in every classroom.
Beyond academics, there are wonderful opportunities. From the sporting field, on stage, in leadership roles or through social justice initiatives, every girl is encouraged to discover her own individual strengths and explore new passions. From the Da Vinci Decathlon to the Duke of Edinburgh Award, our students don’t just participate, they grow.
Our diverse community, welcoming girls from across Australia and around the world, fosters a global outlook and friends for life. For our boarders and day students alike, Schols is a place of connection and community.
With easy access to Sydney’s leading universities, cultural institutions and professional networks, learning at Schols extends well beyond the classroom that prepares students for a rapidly changing world with confidence and courage.
Most importantly, Schols is a place where every girl’s story matters.
Where she finds her voice. Where she builds her future. Where she becomes who she’s meant to be.
At St Scholastica’s College, she will strive, she will shine and she will succeed.
Why St Scholastica’s College for Your Daughter?
St Scholastica’s College is a Catholic, independent school in the Good Samaritan tradition, for girls in Years 7-12. Our day and boarding school – affectionately known as ‘Schols’ – has been educating young women for over 140 years, instilling values which have their foundations in the Catholic faith and the inspiration of the Parable of the Good Samaritan in the Gospel (Luke 10: 25-37).
We proudly describe our College as a ‘school like no other’ because of the rare balance between academic achievement, creativity and excellence in the Arts and sports, in an environment that gives emphasis to personal growth, nurturing pastoral care, inclusion, diversity and respect. Schols has a rich history of educating international, metropolitan, rural, regional and remote students and reducing the educational gap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls.
Our educational offering – through innovation and evidence-based continual development – challenges young women to become citizens who will make a positive difference to the world. A Schols education is holistic and strongly grounded in academic and personal growth, developing young women to become wise, just, compassionate, balanced, and well equipped for an ever-changing world. The College actively promotes the essential values of Hospitality, Compassion and Justice, Stewardship, Harmony and Wisdom.
Opportunities for local community outreach and immersion in the works of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan domestically and abroad add great depth to the experiences at Schols. A broad range of social justice initiatives underpins our faith in action and builds a strong sense of other.
St Scholastica’s College is a wonderful place for boarders to live, learn and be taught. Within a beautiful and peaceful landscape a rich and diverse community of parents, students and staff all play a vital role in living the Benedictine values of the College. It does not replace home but it is a great place to make lifelong friends.
Our boarders, of diverse nationalities from culturally rich backgrounds, come from around Australia and overseas, bringing with them a wide range of abilities, learning experiences and expectations. They have a strong presence in every aspect of school life, including academic pursuits, sport and leadership. They are at the heart of the broader College community.
Learning
At St Scholastica’s College, our broad-based curriculum ensures a solid grounding in a wide range of subjects in addition to allowing students to pursue particular areas of personal interest and expertise.
The College follows the NSW curriculum of study set by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). The State sets the curriculum but we apply nuance and refinement to create the best academic opportunity for each student, irrespective of academic ability. Our staff work to maximise students’ personal and academic achievements as they progress to a post-school life in tertiary studies, further education, or employment.
As a Catholic School, the study of Religious Education is compulsory in all years. The foundations of the College exist within the Parable of the Good Samaritan and the strength of the Benedictine tradition.

Championship Momentum Builds for St Scholastica’s Dragon Boating Team
The energy on the water is building as St Scholastica’s College Dragon Boating teams step up their training in preparation for one of the sport’s premier global events, the 15th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Club Crew World Championships in Taiwan, taking place from 29 August to 6 September 2026.
Training sessions are now in full swing, with crews combining endurance, precision and teamwork as they prepare to represent both their College and Australia on the world stage. The atmosphere is one of focus and determination, driven by a proud legacy of excellence that has positioned St Scholastica’s as a formidable force in international Dragon Boating.
This reputation is well earned. At the 2024 IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Ravenna, Italy, the College’s crews delivered a remarkable performance, capturing gold and World Championship titles across all three premier race distances: 2km, 500m and 200m. St Scholastica’s College was the only Australian crew to achieve this clean sweep. It was a truly extraordinary accomplishment, one that highlights the program’s strength, depth and consistency.
As the team looks ahead to Taiwan, there is a clear sense of purpose to build on this success while continuing to uphold the standards that have defined the program for years.
Dragon Boating has become one of the most successful and distinctive sports programs at St Scholastica’s College. Since its introduction, it has grown significantly in both participation and performance, offering students a unique opportunity to engage in a high-performance team sport that extends far beyond competition. At its core, the program fosters leadership, resilience, discipline and a strong sense of community.
What began as a small group of interested participants has evolved into a structured and dynamic pathway, now encompassing multiple crews across various year levels. Students can progress through Junior, Youth and Open divisions, developing not only their athletic skills but also their capacity to work cohesively within a team environment, an essential element of Dragon Boating success.
The College’s crews are a familiar presence at major regattas across New South Wales and beyond, competing at renowned venues such as Penrith, Sydney Harbour and Canberra, as well as interstate events. These competitions provide valuable experience and exposure, ensuring athletes are well prepared for the demands of high-level racing.
On the international stage, St Scholastica’s continues to shine. Students from the program have represented the College and their country at World Club Crew Championships in cities including Adelaide, Szeged and Ravenna. These campaigns have resulted in World Championship medal finishes, multiple international final appearances and selection opportunities into elite Australian development squads.
A proud achievement is the number of students selected to compete in Auroras crews, Australia’s national junior Dragon Boating teams. These selections are a testament to the exceptional calibre of coaching, athlete development and performance culture embedded within the College program. They also reflect the strong pathways available for students who aspire to compete at the highest levels of the sport.
However, beyond the medals and titles, the true strength of the Dragon Boating Program is the ability to bring students together. It cultivates camaraderie, school spirit and a shared commitment to excellence, important qualities that extend well beyond the water and into all aspects of student life.
As the countdown to the 2026 World Championships continues, the St Scholastica’s community is excited and proud of its Dragon Boaters for their dedication, discipline and achievements. Their journey reminds us of what can be achieved through teamwork and perseverance.
We wish all crews the very best as they continue their preparations and look forward to cheering them on as they once again take to the world stage with confidence, determination and the unmistakable spirit of Schols.
