A TIGS education recognises that, to take students from strength to strength, a school needs to be consistent, creative, and customised.

Building on learning day-by-day, within a caring environment, founded on Christian beliefs and values. Each child develops a love of learning to inspire them both throughout their School journey and beyond into the modern, global landscape.

Quality education is more than an examination score at The Illawarra Grammar School. Academic results are only part of what makes an education one of excellence. At TIGS, every child is understood as an individual, traveling a personalised learning journey, empowering them to thrive in an everchanging world.

Your child’s education

The consistently strong academic record at TIGS speaks for itself and behind those results is a team of high-quality educators delivering a learning programme personalised to your child. Through a flexible framework, delivered according to the individual needs of each student, your child learns to become an independent thinker with the skills for lifelong learning. Enrichment opportunities allow advanced students the opportunity to stretch themselves, while students who need extra support are nurtured to discover the tools that will enable them to succeed.

Your child’s experiences

With one of the largest co-curricular offerings in the Illawarra region, your child can explore their passions and interests at TIGS. Camps and outdoor education opportunities extend students beyond their comfort zones, building their resilience and confidence to take on any challenge. Visual and performing arts choices help creativity and technique blossom onstage, backstage and in the studio. Fitness, team building, developing perseverance and grit are just some of the benefits of sport co-curricular offerings, with the School’s Talented Athlete Programme taking this to the next level. In addition, other opportunities range from Science and Mathematics to debating and cultural experiences, ensuring there is something for every child, wherever their interests lie.

Your child’s wellbeing

The School believes building a caring and engaging community, founded on Christian beliefs, helps every student become strong emotionally, mentally, and socially. At TIGS, there is a dedicated focus on your child’s pastoral care. Expert staff oversee every student’s needs, including providing access to the learning support, counselling or services they need to grow from strength to strength. Classroom teachers, House Mentors, Year Group Deans and the Chaplaincy Team all work together to provide a consistent, daily connection to give your child the very best pastoral care.

Your child’s future

The Illawarra and the world need new types of leaders, at work, in public life, and at home. A generation with a wide range of skills and competencies, prepared to be adaptive, flexible, and courageous. A TIGS education can help your child become a leader of character, compassion, and critical thinking. To build a strong leader, you need a strong school to guide them – TIGS Strong.

Academic. Christian. Caring.
The achievement of academic excellence in a caring environment that is founded on Christian belief and behaviour, so that students are equipped to act with wisdom, compassion and justice as faithful stewards of our world.
Principal's Image

Since 1959, TIGS has upheld the proud tradition of educating young people and encouraging them to be the best they can be, while developing a keen sense of stewardship to take out to the world. Our purpose is for students to leave TIGS knowing how to learn, how to interpret information and use it to achieve a goal. We want our students to have a deep awareness of who they are, their strengths and potential. To have a strong work ethic, to feel resilient and confident and to walk into the world knowing they are valued and knowing how to build healthy, positive relationships with others. I encourage you to contact the School and see the excellent education that is a TIGS education.

Are You a High Performer?

The Illawarra Grammar School offer various scholarships to existing and external students from Year 5 to Year 11. These scholarships range from the Arts to Academic Excellence and General Excellence. We provide students with the opportunity and encouragement to excel across a broad range of passions with reductions of up to 75% off tuition fees for entry into Year 7 to Year 11. In exceptional circumstances, a higher percentage may be awarded at the Principal’s discretion.
