I am often asked what innovation looks like. It comes in many forms and to think that it just involves technology, new pedagogy, physical spaces or other similar traits, is defying the true nature of innovation. A student sent me this message recently and explained their memorable experience in one of our classes which actually occurred in one of our rooms with older furniture and limited technology, but it paintsthe perfect picture of how passionate our staff are about bringing learning alive in our classrooms.
“Dear Mr Davis,
We were told to check their passports, escort them to their seats, put their seat belts on and put their bags under the seats. We also gave them leis. Then we did the flight safety video which was played on the big screen. We were then asked to take them in-flight food which were cookies. Once the plane ‘landed,’ the students were asked to leave the classroom so we could create the next scene. The teacher had organised three stations, one with a coconut for tasting, as well as chopped up pieces of banana. Another station was set up with a screen and different backdrops of Vanuatu locations, and extra props that the students could take their pictures with. The last one was a craft booth where they could make DIY bracelets, leis and hair accessories. At the end as they left the lesson, we were asked to stand by the door to give them souvenirs and their photo printed from the photo booth as a travel memento. We also then stamped their passport. I was so amazed at this experience that I had to tell you!”
This just blew me away. Our College is leading innovation in many different areas, and continues to change conventional schooling to bring learning to life in the classroom and I am just so proud of our teaching staff and their ability to inspire and enrich our students' learning experiences every dayat Hillcrest.

Welcome from the Principal
Hillcrest Christian College has been embarking on an exciting journey of growth, innovation, and change in recent years. We are a College that is embracing and redefining 21st Century education, while standing firm on the core values envisioned by our founders over 36 years ago.
In 2016, we unveiled the College's five-year Strategic Plan, a plan to cement and connect our history and College ethos, with a bold and exciting future. A plan that would see Hillcrest provide a learning environment of world-standing, where every student would be equipped to succeed spiritually, educationally, and in their extracurricular pursuits.
Three years into this Strategic Plan, and we can honestly say that Hillcrest is flourishing. Our reputation in the community is stronger than ever before, and our enrolments have increased significantly in recent years, with waiting lists across most of our Year levels. Our classrooms are filled with incredible young men and women imbued with character, confidence and concern for their community. Our campus now offers some of the most amazing educational facilities imaginable.
We have been blessed beyond measure, and give glory to God for all that He began at Hillcrest Christian College, and all that is He continues to do within our College community.
“For no one can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:11
If you are considering Hillcrest for your child, I would personally love to meet you and I offer regular tours of our Campus to give parents the opportunity to explore our facilities and ask me any questions they have about our College. I hope to meet you in the near future.
