About Our College

The College was founded in 1966 at Pennant Hills. Our focus is girls’ education, and equipping our girls to thrive in the 21st century. We combine outstanding academic programs with a rich pastoral, mission and co-curricular programs to ensure each girl can discover and develop her unique gifts.

We educate our students in the rich tradition of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, with a view to identifying how best to make a contribution to the world.

Learning experiences at Mount St Benedict College are developed in response to the diverse needs of our students, leading to a wide range of opportunities which meet the needs of individual students.
The history of Mount St Benedict College dates back to 1966 when the first classes were held in the basement of the novitiate of the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, now known as the MSB Centre. Now 58 years later, the College welcomes a new era, with the culmination of a grand renovation project heralding the opening of the MSB Centre in 2024.

This state-of-the-art facility, a testament to the College’s Good Samaritan heritage, signifies a commitment to academic excellence and a celebration of an enduring past. In its upgraded form, the MSB Centre offers a range of new learning spaces, including 11 new classrooms, multipurpose spaces with modern audio-visual learning aids and a large contemporary external stairwell facing onto the College’s heritage Blue Gum Forest. In addition, the MSB Centre will also become the new administration block for the College providing front of house, reception and office space for staff.

100 years of Benedictine heritage is now visible in the balance of old and new, and the College community looks forward to the teaching and learning opportunities the new spaces will open up to our students in the 2024 school year.

Mount St Benedict College has a multi-purpose Hall, extensive classrooms, a well-resourced Library, a dedicated Technology and Applied Studies building, a state-of-the-art creative and performing arts centre, courts for netball and basketball, and a multi-purpose sports oval.

The College enjoys a beautiful position overlooking the Blue Gum High Forest. It is an oasis of calm with courtyards and decks for students to gather overlooking the bush.

The Cocurricular Program at Mount St Benedict College aims to provide a holistic learning experience that is accessible, inclusive and offers an intentional pathway of quality opportunities for growth and development for all our students. The available opportunities aim to cater for all students from a wide range of abilities, experience and interest areas. The program is designed to encourage and foster positive relationships amongst students, staff and the wider community, which is integral for a valuable learning experience.

Explore - At this level, students are encouraged to ‘explore’ an activity that has sparked their curiosity or interest. This category of activities aims to leverage the social endeavour of learning and encourage maximum participation. Open to all members of the College community, these programs are designed to ensure that students of any ability can participate in a social and recreational environment, where most activities are run on campus. A minimum level of technical proficiency and time commitment is expected for this category of activities.

Elevate - Students engaged in this level are expected to be able to demonstrate experience, skill and technical proficiency to a required level as well as have a desire to learn more, to ‘elevate’ their skills. At this level, programs are designed to be challenging and yield individual growth. Activities aim to develop and refine students’ abilities, increasing their competence and confidence so that they can readily adapt to a range of competitive or complex environments. At times, the activities will involve external College representation at events or competitions, where students will be challenged to improve their craft. A moderate to high level of time commitment is expected to accommodate the training or preparation/practice expectations required to develop the skill, technical proficiency and confidence of the student. Genuine and authentic leadership opportunities are introduced at this level.

Excel - In this level of the program, the student’s passion for their chosen pursuit will drive their desire to challenge and extend their understanding, skill and adaptability in their chosen activity. The activities will generally involve high levels of critical-thinking and problemsolving in pursuit of personal excellence. A high level of time commitment is expected and required for students to achieve their personal best. Student determination and commitment to their craft will also help build and develop their leadership capacity.

The College’s Learning Experience and Wellbeing and Learning Model address the faith and spirituality needs of students, their wellbeing priorities and their learning needs for the future.

At Mount St Benedict College, we bring together the science of Positive Psychology and best teaching practice to encourage our students to flourish (optimal wellbeing) at school. Positive Education highlights students understanding of their own strengths and develops skills that our students can harness to strengthen their relationships with everyone in their world. This includes building and understanding positive emotions, enhancing resilience when faced with adversity, practising mindfulness, and fostering a healthy lifestyle. It is underpinned by seeking meaning in life through service to others and providing skills in achieving personal goals. We encourage our girls to seek and cultivate the best within themselves and strike a fulfilling, manageable balance in their experiences of love, work and play. In our holistic vision of education, students are able to build their confidence through a wellbeing structure that includes a community of house groups and vertical homerooms, Residential Education and Cocurricular Programs.

The core values of the College are Pax, Hospitality and Stewardship, and the promotion of holistic education in the spirit of Benedictine and Good Samaritan tradition.
