Oxley Christian College is a coeducational Christian day school with a total enrolment of around 1,000 students. The Early Learning Centre, known as Oxley Kids, encompasses pre-school / kindergarten for children aged 3-4 years old. The Junior School covers Prep to Year 6; while the Senior School encompasses Years 7 through 12. Students in Years 7-9 are part of the ‘Middle Years’, while students in Years 10-12 are part of the ‘Senior Years’.
In offering a complete educational experience – from Early Learning to Year 12 – the College fosters a sense of community, security and belonging, where interaction between all year levels is encouraged as an important aspect of social development.
Each student is assigned to one of three competition groups called Houses. Friendly Inter-House competition in various sports fosters the qualities of co-operation and team loyalty, while roles of responsibility at all Year levels – Home Group Captains, Junior and Senior School House Captains, and College Captains and Vice-Captains – nurture the development of leadership skills.
In the Junior School, class teachers provide a strong sequential program of English and mathematics, science and technology, social studies, health, Biblical studies and integrated studies. Computer studies, LOTE Chinese, arts, music, physical education and library skills are taught by specialist teachers in dedicated facilities.
Our highly qualified Senior School staff, offer a richly diverse curriculum of breadth and depth, with careers counselling and opportunities for work placements. Co-curricular activities include instrumental music and choral groups, drama productions, public speaking and an exciting camps program. Oxley has accepted an invitation to join the Eastern Independent Schools Melbourne sporting association in 2008, creating new opportunities for our students in inter-school sports.
Through these innovative programs, we aim to develop young people of faith and vision who are confident, articulate and creative leaders.
The Oxley environment is one of friendliness and warmth, characterised by a recognition of the importance of courtesy, mutual respect, and concern for the welfare of others. Staff-student relations are excellent.
All staff are committed to the personal and spiritual wellbeing of their students, offering support and direction whenever they are needed. Home Group Teachers, Year Level Coordinators and the College Chaplain are also available at all times to provide guidance and counselling.
Consultation with parents is seen as another vital aspect of responsible pastoral care.
