Weekly Tours: Blue Gum Preschool and Primary School
Every Monday, 3:30–4:15pm, and every Wednesday, 10–10:45am, during school terms
Each week, we welcome families to Blue Gum Community School to tour our Preschool and Primary School and find out about our educational program and approach.
Our Preschool Program is designed specifically for 3–5 year olds and leads our youngest learners naturally into our Primary School, making the move from early childhood into Primary School a seamless one. Our Primary School continues the same approach from Kindergarten, with small multi-age groups and a 1:12 teacher-to-student ratio.
Blue Gum draws on best practice in early childhood and education around the world, most especially the ideas and principles of the educational project in Reggio Emilia, Northern Italy. We see every child from the perspective of their strengths, as a significant and influential member of their group of learners. Supporting children to develop holistically is a cornerstone of our practice, so empathy, self-regulation and collaboration sit right alongside emerging skills in literacy, numeracy and the sciences. The arts are part of every day across the school, as an essential way we all grow, deepen our understanding and communicate our ideas.
All our work is framed as research. Our teachers see themselves as co-researchers with children, coming alongside them to inquire about the world and deepen their thinking together. It’s commonplace to hear students sharing their theories with one another and bringing different perspectives into focus. We also give great attention to the environment in which learning happens. Our spaces are intentionally beautiful, inspiring and calm, inviting connection, wonder and peace in a world that too often gives young children places that are chaotic, busy and loud.
And in all this, Blue Gum is a place of joy! Laughter and connection are our normal, and rich relationships are at the heart of our culture. Because we are small, every child and family is known, and we work together to live well as a community every day.
Come and see for yourself!
Because Preschool enrolments are considered throughout the year, depending on when children turn 3, tours run every week during term, so you can visit whenever the time is right for your family.
