Welcome to St Laurence's College

St Laurence’s College is more than a school. Our community is one in which those who wear the black and gold are deeply connected. Conveniently located in South Brisbane, Lauries as a Catholic school genuinely embodies the values of the Edmund Rice Tradition.

The College’s passionate and committed staff combine with state-of-the-art facilities and dynamic educational strategies to holistically develop our young men- spiritually, morally, intellectually, emotionally, physically, culturally and socially.

It is seen every day as our young men are encouraged to reach and maximise their potential in all aspects of College life.

It is seen through the academic growth of success of our young men.

It is seen through our extensive academic and Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs where our young men can flourish and pursue their dream careers.

It is seen in our musical program, our largest singular co-curricular offering, where our young men develop their skills, confidence and passion for music and the arts.

It is seen in our sporting programs, where our young men can flourish, improve and reach new heights.

It is seen in our community programs, where our young men are encouraged to engage outside the classroom through service to others and faith in action initiatives.

It is seen in the care our young men show for one another in our peer mentoring programs, transport buddy systems, or when they support their peers at co-curricular events.

It is seen in our strong sense of community and tradition where the fostering of friendships is so important and deeply engrained.

But most importantly, it is seen when our young men leave the College at their end of their journey as well-rounded individuals with full hearts, ready to make a positive impact in society.

St Laurence’s College offers a broad program of both subject offerings and enrichment experiences to cater for the learning needs of all students.

Each student is challenged to attain their personal level of Academic Excellence and their performance is tracked as the journey through the College.

The College is committed to providing students with an appropriate academic pathway that provides them with a set of skills foundational to future success. Within each sub-school: Primary (Years 5-6), Middle (Years 7-9) and Senior (Years 10-12), specialist staff are empowered to deliver tailored learning experiences to ensure each student can grow to his full potential. Please visit our website to learn more.

The welfare of the boys is paramount at St Laurence's College. We encourage boys to engage in their studies with purpose and confidence, which promotes their full human growth. The school has high expectations of student behaviour in all situations, expectations that aim to promote a high degree of self-discipline as well as enhancing self-confidence, self-esteem and good habits for later life.

Pastoral Care is the responsibility of the Heads of School, Heads of Year and teaching staff. Our staff take a special interest in each boy’s academic and general progress and are there to praise and record any particular success or achievement.

The St Laurence’s College Vision is to be an authentic, dynamic, relational Catholic educational community.

An authentic Catholic community that celebrates and reflects Edmund Rice’s vision of Presence, Compassion and Liberation by ‘acting justly, loving tenderly and walking humbly with God’ (Micah 6:8).

A dynamic educational community for boys and young men that maximises their potential to be both active contributors to and prophetic voices within an ever-changing society.

An inclusive community, which continuously seeks to create and renew respectful, compassionate relationships by which all can experience what it means to be fully human.
St Laurence’s College, through nurturing respectful and compassionate relationships, aims to:
- Foster Christian faith, personal worth and belonging through spiritual growth, reconciliation, compassion and generosity.
- Educate boys and young men holistically in spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional, physical, cultural and social dimensions of life.
- Provide a safe and sustainable environment in which St Laurence’s College boys and young men learn and live.
- Inspire all to live lives of service, especially to the poor and marginalised, both locally and globally.

- Future Year 5 Parent

"Love the school. It brought a strong community together through sport, academia and music. The opportunities are endless as students carry on their Lauries Journey. Our son graduated as a confident, capable and compassionate young man, in his first year studying at University. We can't thank the dedicated pastoral and teaching staff enough."

- Parent of an Old Boy '20

A Catholic school for boys in the Archdiocese of Brisbane, we have been operating since 1915. With a total enrolment of over 1,990 boys, and with many international students, we accept students from Year 5 to Year 12, drawing from a wide area of Brisbane.

As a College conducted in the Edmund Rice tradition, we proudly offer a distinctive educational philosophy that is based on a commitment to education as liberation.

Blessed Edmund Rice, the founder of the Christian Brothers, attempted to change the system to assist those in need, to protect the weak and to work for a just world. His challenge to us today is to act justly and to live in the right relationship with God, ourselves, our neighbour and indeed with all of creation. The College aims to have the values of the Gospel and the message of Jesus pervades in all that happens.

Our staff are enthusiastic, highly dedicated and committed to the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of our students through lifelong learning. They come with a wide range of experience, skills and expertise and a deep commitment to provide students with quality relationships and positive learning experiences. We look forward to working closely with our students and their parents/caregivers.

Please feel free to explore our website and contact the school for further information, or to join us on a tour of the facilities during our Open Day or by appointment with our Enrolments Registrar, so you can experience our warm and engaging environment first hand.
