Excellence in education, innovation in learning and a caring Christian community: The Lakes College is preparing a new generation of global citizens, with a growing tradition of outstanding academic results and a solid grounding in faith.

We have spent the past two decades building our vision, to be recognised as a Christian College which helps our students lay the foundations for a bright and successful future. We develop, nurture and recognise individual talents through a flexible and well-rounded curriculum.

Based in the heart of the fast growing North Lakes area of Brisbane, our co-educational College campus is a vibrant and happy place with boundless opportunities. Catering for Prep to Year 12, The Lakes College is an independent school underpinned by the traditions and beliefs of the Uniting Church.

The Lakes College is committed to enabling students to engage in inspirational and innovative learning. To achieve this, we develop our learners' capacity to transfer their understandings and capabilities to new and unfamiliar contexts. This means that students are able to apply the knowledge, competencies and skills, and values and attitudes developed in the classroom to a range of diverse situations within both a formal education setting and also to the contemporary world around them. To facilitate this, we have developed Our Teaching and Learning Culture (Our TLC), which articulates our expectations for teaching, learning and the culture situated at the intersection of the two.
The College facilities enhance academic learning, spiritual and extra-curricular programs. The expansion of our Secondary facilities include large flexible, technology enabled learning spaces, Café, Food Technology and Visual Arts Centre, a purpose designed Language Centre and a cutting-edge Industrial Technology Centre, a brand-new Aquatic Precinct that is home to TLC Swim Club and also includes a Learn to Swim Facility, as well as our impressive state-of-the-art indoor sporting facility - Multi-Purpose Hall, that includes four convertible indoor courts.

Our classrooms are designed with the intent of delivering a curriculum and teaching philosophy that facilitates the 21st century skills of collaboration, personal and social competence, and critical and creative thinking, thus best preparing our students for life after school.

All buildings are air-conditioned, providing the optimum learning environment in the Queensland climate.

Future building stages will be constructed to keep pace with the expected growth in student numbers.

Our educational philosophy is focused on the whole child - intellectual, cultural, physical, social and spiritual and strives to develop the good, the true and the beautiful in every child. A balanced approach to education through quality curricular and extra-curricular programs provides opportunities for students to explore their potential.

Sport

Sport is an integral part of life at TLC. There is a strong emphasis on personal fitness, participation and teamwork where students are encouraged to reach their full potential and contribute to a team.

Performing Arts

The Lakes College provides all students with opportunities to participate in and enjoy self-expression through music, drama, art and dance. There is a strong focus on performance and display of talent.

Student Activities

The Lakes College’s approach to education seeks to develop well-rounded young people with a thorough grounding in the academic, cultural, social, spiritual and physical domains. We provide a diverse range of extra-curricular programs that cater for a variety of talents and interests that vary each term.

Within our Secondary School, the vertical Home Group pastoral care system plays a crucial role, encompassing and nurturing the wellbeing of every student by fostering their spiritual, emotional, social and academic development.

The pastoral care of each student is nurtured through our signature Find Your North Wellbeing framework, House membership, and vertical Home Group structures that strengthen student wellbeing at TLC. When students enrol at TLC, there is a saying, “Which House Will Choose You?”, students then have a home away from home while at the College.

Our Primary School actively participates in The Resilience Project, an enriching program centred on instilling Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness in our students. A unique aspect of this program is the incorporation of a daily journaling practice. Students are encouraged to maintain a personal journal where they reflect on their experiences, thoughts and feelings related to gratitude, empathy and mindfulness. By integrating this program into our Primary School Wellbeing framework, we not only address the immediate emotional needs of our students but also equip them with lifelong skills that positively impact their personal and academic journeys.

The College is engaged in the fundamental task of forming and informing young minds and hearts. In promoting the good news of Jesus Christ among students, families and staff members, gospel values are central to all that we seek to do:

????? | Faith is a place of mystery, where we wrestle with uncertainty. In letting go of the fear of that which is unknown, faith gives us the strength to believe in what we cannot see.

???? | Hope is a gift from God to humanity; thought underpinned by emotion to support humankind through the realities of life. Hope empowers us to survive, endure and seek the next horizon.

???? | Love is having a deep respect and selfless care for all humanity and creation, nurtured by giving without expecting anything in return.
1 John 4:19 ‘We love because God first loved us’

??????? | Courage lives in the heart where our vulnerability and new-found bravery meet. Itis where we dare to be honest and open about who we are and what we believe. Courage is about standing for what is right, even when it’s uncomfortable.

????????? | Community is about celebrating the authenticity of self and others, a place of true belonging, where uniqueness and diversity are accepted and embraced.

??????? | Justice calls us to stand alongside the voiceless, the marginalised, the oppressed. Through a commitment to creating a more caring and just world - where people are empowered, where people are heard - we work towards reconciliation.

Nicole Gregory

Principal

For the second consecutive year, The Lakes College (TLC) has ranked in the top three for both Primary and Secondary NAPLAN results in the Moreton Region (2024). Our Primary students achieved the best results in the region as the number one top performing school, with an impressive average score of 529.4. Additionally, our Secondary students maintained high standards with an average score of 584.4, the third top performing school in the region. These outstanding results reflect our commitment to excellence and personal bests.

At The Lakes College, we believe in helping our students achieve their personal bests. Much like athletes chasing records, our learners are encouraged to surpass their own limits both in and out of the classroom. This approach not only celebrates individual accomplishments but also fosters collective success.

We have strategically invested in the Walker Learning approach for our Primary students, a well-researched method that provides a solid foundation for early learners. Furthermore, our systematic commitment to phonics underscores our dedication to equipping students with essential skills for future success.

In our Secondary School, we place a strong emphasis on excellence in teaching and learning. By focusing on critical and creative thinking, we aim to develop students into future-focused thinkers who consistently strive for academic excellence.

Recognising the importance of continuous improvement, The Lakes College remains committed to providing a rich learning environment for all students. We are actively exploring new ways to enhance educational outcomes further.

Congratulations to all our staff and students for their contributions to these exceptional NAPLAN results. This collective success is a direct result of the daily efforts invested in creating a conducive and engaging learning environment. Let's continue to strive for excellence and celebrate our achievements together!
